My job just screwed me over big time.
There's a number of affiliated hospitals where I live. Basically, it means they are separate entities, but affiliated in some way so that if you transfer from one to another, you maintain your seniority and don't have a gap in your benefits.

I was a tech at a hospital and I am moving into a position as a nurse in an affiliated hospital. Everything was all set. I was going to work tonight and tomorrow night, take two weeks vacation time in between and then start my new job. My managers were fine with this. Everything was all set.

I last worked early last week and at that point they hadn't posted the final schedule, so I call today just to verify I'm on the schedule tonight for 7pm-7am. I'm not. Not only that, I'm completely out of the whole system and not scheduled for any more days there. This massively screws me if it is to happen. I lose almost three years seniority and puts me without benefits for two months. I don't have enough vacation time to cover three weeks either. I'm waiting for the callback from one of my managers right now (who are off on a beautiful Sunday and I had to page, so it's going to take awhile). What the fuck? Crap!

3. do you have any paperwork to back it up?
any signed schedules or other documents? If not, talk to the people who helped you set this up, if it isn't just some scheduling snafu, and get some 'witnesses' to the arrangement.

In the future ALWAYS get something important like this in writing. Doesn't always help, but if something as important as benefits and seniority are at stake, it helps to have documentation when you go to management.

4. mebbe they are messed up
if not, then they are screwing you.

i know that when i changed positions, went to a supervisory position i once again was on "probation" but i didn't lose seniority, and i didn't lose benefits.

this being in a hospital system.

not as large as yours, and i have no idea what kind of crap they would be trying to pull, but nurses are in such short supply that to be screwing over nurses at this time would be employer suicide for a hospital.

:hi:

5. Update.
Edited on Sun May-20-07 02:42 PM by SarahBelle
I talked to one of my managers and she was very cool. She said she knows my last day is "officially" 6/10 and human resources probably screwed up somewhere (thankfully I do have written communications to back it up if need be). I'm going in tonight (although my badge might not work to get in anywhere and it'll be a pain) and with any luck, she'll get this straightened out with HR in the morning. I was just venting before 'cause I was getting all stressed out waiting. Things should be ok though. Time for my nap now. Thanks, guys. :)
