Thanks Mom, for calling me at midnight to wish me a Happy Mother's Day
I appreciate the gesture, but in the future please don't call at that hour unless a close blood relation is dying and needs a transfusion. And even then, I'm O+, so if they're anything negative I can't help and you can give me the bad news after I wake up.

Drowsily,

LM, who has to work on Mother's Day.

2. Which is why you can call me that late
You have the good sense not to do it without reason. My mother, OTOH...

3. Ugh, that feeling I get when the ringing telephone wakes me in the middle of the night
First, trying to wake up and quickly gather my wits feels like being underwater trying to get to the surface before I run out of oxygen.
Then, that nervous sense that something bad has happened to someone in my, or my husband's family.

Happy Mothers' Day! or, as my son said last year, when he was making up silly names to use instead of "Mom", Happy MothTurds' Day! I guess if it's done with affection, we should be grateful. ;)

4. Midnight's still normal awake time for my mom and me
we're both night owls, always have been.

2:45 AM, on the other hand...which is the time it was in Chicago when she called me frantically from a bus somewhere in Malaysia asking me to go to Yahoo and change her email password for her RIGHT NOW because she wouldn't have time before she had to catch a flight out of Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta, and she was afraid the nosy friend she'd been staying with would read her email.

Well, it was a perfectly civilized time of day where SHE was.

Hey, I have to call her soon. Maybe I'll remind her of that when I do.
