1. She may have been a good actress, but she was NOT a pleasant person in real life.

Trust me, I live where she lived. I could never believe how everyone thought it was "cute" when she'd come charging into the little grocery store on Main Street, literally pushing everyone else at the deli/meat counter out of her way, snapping at any children present, and barking orders at all and sundry to fulfill her desires IMMEDIATELY, notwithstanding the fact that there were other people waiting, who had been there before she barged her IMPORTANT self into the store.

I'm really sorry to rain on your parade, but that kind of behavior never struck me as "quirky" or "eccentric." She was just downright RUDE, and that to the citizens of a town who guarded her privacy to no end.

I'm one of those people who believe that no matter how much money you have, you should still have manners.

2. Somehow that fits in with my image of her as a person. Kind of a prima donna.

After all, she named her autobiography "Me," as if that's all that mattered to her.

3. Your image would be right. Apologies to the "Kate" fans, of whom my mother was one, but she was
a cranky and domineering old battle-axe.

All of us who happened to be downtown had to wait a LONG time to finish our business a few years before she died, because an ambulance to take her to the hospital wasn't enough. NO, it had to be an ambulance escorted by a LONG train of both local and State cops, Main Street closed to let them pass, the whole shooting match.

4. I think some of it comes out in her interviews with Barbara Walters...
...she did several interviews with her over the years and she seemed pretty ornery in the later ones. She even said, "Well, tough titty" and they aired it as is.

5. I never cared much for her acting
just too - I don't know, over the top, something but I don't really enjoy her movies
