2. Well, those are interesting questions
1. What is your favorite portamento?

I had to look it up to see what it was and once I did, I discovered that I have no idea what my favorite would be anyway. :P

2. How did you enjoy (or not enjoy) mathematics in school?

I didn't. It intimidated the hell out of me.

3. Do you drive a sensible, responsible-but-boring car, or an insensible, irresponsible-but-fun-as-hell one? What kind is it?

I drive a sensible, responsible-but-boring (as well as cheap) car - a Chevy Aveo. And I love it. :)

4. Did you know that the word "pajamas" is an Anglicization of a Hindi version of a Persian word?

I did not know that. And do either (or both) of the Hindi and Persian words mean the same thing?

5. Soap: bars, liquid, or other? Liquid.

4. I almost bought an Aveo! Surprisingly roomy for such a small car.
I test drove it with a friend who's about 6'6" and he had plenty of room. It was totally bizarre that he fit so well. And my rotund cousin fit well in the back seat as well.

But I bought a convertible instead.

7. Uh oh, getting out my valley-girl voice for question 1
1. A whuuuu...?

2. Math?! Eww--I'm a word person. Haaated it until I got to geometry--had an excellent teacher who helped us all ace the NYS Regents exam. Took math till I didn't have to anymore, then never touched it again.

3. I drive a fun car (Jeep Wrangler) with bad mileage. Bought it when gas was reasonably priced and I had a well-paying job. But I keep it because I love it so, and even better, it's now paid for.

4. I do vaguely remember that the word "pajamas" originated in Persia, but didn't recall till you mentioned it.

5. Liquid soap, preferably Method brand. Victoria's Secret shower gel too. Mainly so I don't have to clean up icky soap-goo that oozes off bars.

11. confused answers
"1. What is your favorite portamento?"
I have never analysed music to that degree.

"2. How did you enjoy (or not enjoy) mathematics in school?"
Fucking hated it. Dammit, you've triggered a PTSD flashback.

"3. Do you drive a sensible, responsible-but-boring car, or an insensible, irresponsible-but-fun-as-hell one? What kind is it?"
Cars are not an expression of individual personality. They are a means to an end. It's a '02 VW Jetta station wagon. You be the judge.

"4. Did you know that the word 'pajamas' is an Anglicization of a Hindi version of a Persian word?"
nope

"5. Soap: bars, liquid, or other?"
Yes, soap exists as both bars, liquid and also powder.

there are hills all through here and the Sacramento Mountains and the Guadalupes are less than an hour's drive west of here.

This is a very gentle desert compared to the Sonoran desert in Phoenix where I moved from

Green in overrated IMO

PS hubby has some of the best star gazing in the country here, which is why we moved here in the first place ;) he can see several of the 7 sisters with the naked eye and the Milky Way cloud is amazing here

13. Here goes:
1. Whammy bar dive bomb, think Jimi Hendrix (although there are a lot of othe examples. Eddie Van Halen is also pretty well known for this stuff. I've always really liked KK Downings tremolo work, but most people wouldn't be familiar with it.

2. I struggled though Calc. I would love to be better at math and I can usually get done what I need to, but watching my friends who had the knack makes me a bit envious.

3. Sensible--a Chevy Cavalier. It's got a snappy metallic blue paint job though, and a Yakima rack for all of my boating.

4. No idea at all until right now.

5. Bar.

1. The opening of "Comfortably Numb". Though I'm a huge fan of the dives and bombs in Hendrix's "Machine Gun II". And Penderecki has some stunning portamentos in his Polish Requiem.

2. Good at it, and loved it.

3. Irresponsible sports car.

4. Yes. One of those pieces of trivia I heard years ago, and never forgot. For some reason, it impressed my brain enough to save the info.

5. My preference is for liquid, so I use a scrubbie. :-)

24. Depends
1) Would you consider Perez Prado's "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White" an example of portamento or glissando? If portamento, that. If not, no idea.

2) Loved math.

3) Both. I own a sensible 1982 Mercedes 300D, and a zippy little Neon SXT, which is more fun around curves. My wife got the Prius.

4) No.

5) Never use soap. I hate the electric slick feel of soap between my fingers. Gives me the creeps.

3. Sensible and fun. (Go for both when I can. :-) Honday CR-V

4. No I didn't. That's my new thing that I learned for today. Thanks, Rabrrrrrr.

5. Liquid soap or glycerin bars, because then I don't have to clean up soap scum. I enjoy making my own glycerin soaps sometimes. Good, clean fun. B-)

2. It was easy; I have an aptitude for it, but didn't fathom its productive use at the time. But I can pass all sorts of tests if I wanted to. Mind you, that was at the tender age of 10. Math is incredibly useful once applied to something. The application makes the knowledge of an abstract art efficacious indeed.
