Soccer Mom Slaps Daughter, Leaves Her On I-80 At Night
Soccer Mom Pleads Not Guilty To Child Abuse

POSTED: 1:20 pm CDT May 9, 2007
UPDATED: 1:38 pm CDT May 9, 2007

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A woman accused of slapping and abandoning her teenage daughter along Interstate 80 over the girl's poor performance in a soccer game has pleaded not guilty to child abuse.

The 42-year-old Lincoln woman is scheduled to appear in Lancaster County Court again on June 4. She would be subject to a penalty of up to a year in jail if convicted of the misdemeanor charge.

Lincoln police said they believe the woman yelled at the 15-year-old girl in the family car on the way home from the game, then ordered her to repeat lines about improving her performance.

7. She flubbed her motivational lines.
Police said that when the girl flubbed the lines, her mother slapped her, then pulled over along Interstate 80 in Lincoln and told the girl to get out. A teammate and her parent spotted the girl, picked her up, took her to their home and called police.

So she messed up some motivational lines. That's worth destroying your relationship with your daughter for? Congratulations, asshat. YOU are a FUCKING moron.

12. I heard a softball coach last year call 7&8 year olds "stupid retards."
Edited on Wed May-09-07 09:56 PM by davsand
Yep. I was coaching first base at a home game and this guy was coaching for the other team. He was out on the field with those poor kids and he was SCREAMING at them. He was calling them stupid, calling them "retards" and telling them how awful he thought they were. The poor little girl that was pitching was literally standing on the pitchers' mound crying.

One of my kids got a walk and she was standing there with me at First when the guy burst out with a tirade. Her jaw dropped and she turned around and looked at me with huge eyes and said, "Laura, I have NEVER heard you say anything like that." I replied, "Nope, and you never will. That is not how adults are supposed to act."

I filed a complaint with the league about that guy and he's no longer coaching. My only regret is that I didn't pull my girls off that field on the basis of general principle. MY daughter would never have been playing for an asshat like that--if I had to drive her three hours to go play someplace else.

Gawd, I get pissed off all over again just thinking about it...

I coach because I feel it is good for my daughter to participate in team sports. I have no illusions about my kid getting some kind of sport scholarship to college, I have no "plan" to turn her into an Olympian, I really doubt that she'll be a pro athlete (unless it is HER dream to do it.) I honestly think, however, that there are WAY too many parents out there that DO think club sports are a scholarship or pro career in the making.

Too much pressure on these kids. Can't they just be kids and have fun?? I spent an hour at the ball park the other night after practice just playing "Home Run Derby" with a mix of boys and girls just for the heck of it. THAT kind of fun is why I coach.

Anyway, to get to my point, I have NO trouble picturing some parent doing that to a kid over a soccer game. You would not believe what I have heard parents say to kids during and after games. It breaks my heart.

15. I agree. Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but it WOULD have been
an excellent statement if you and your team would have left the field in protest.

Not only would that have made a strong impression on the asshat, think of the impression it would make on the girls--on BOTH teams.

Would that we ALL have the courage to do what's right in the face of what's wrong.

13. What's going on in that woman's life
that she snapped like that? She needed to get to a therapist a long time ago.

14. Some parents way too desperately want their
kids to be everything they were not. I would be willing to bet that woman's life hasn't amounted to much. I feel for the daughter who will never measure up to her mother's unrealistic expectations.

I wish I could pull that mother aside and share with her the story of a Southern California mother who last Friday lost all three of her children - ages 5, 4, and 2- in a horrific accident on the freeway. Something like that really puts things into perspective.
