My 7 year old baby boy Beagle
was limping and crying tonight so I took him to the vet

Vet said he has a cervical disc "leak". He said the disc is like a jelly donut and the outside is hard and the inside is just like jelly. So the outside has eroded and the jelly is leaking......
The cervical disc is very close to the
vertebrae and with the leak it is pressing on the vertebrae and causing pain.
He gave him a cortisone shot and I have pills to give him......
the only thing is if the leak gets bigger paralysis could set in....
I'm supposed to keep him quiet......
this is one of those could happen, or not things.

so some positive thoughts and prayers if you could.....

thanks

11. No surgery yet
if he is not feeling better in 72 hours I have to bring him back
so they can take some xrays and figure out where to go from here....

15. If it continues, they may well choose to perform a hemilaminectomy (sp?)
I'm pretty sure I got that word wrong, so don't try googling it. They can remove the ruptured material, and I believe drain the "jelly" from that area and stop compressing the spinal cord. There's an excellent chance that there will be no paralysis after the surgery, but as I recall, the healing is a long process.

My best to you and your pup. An extra hug tonight to your pup from me.

21. That happens to my dog too, lost.
The vet explained that there are some breeds of dogs (like yours and like mine) that are susceptible to this condition. My dog has had the same treatment, and it helps tremendously. We were also told that paralysis may set in some day, but so far, so good. (My dog is also 7.).

Sending good vibes to your baby, and to you. I'm betting that he will be fine in a day or so.
