5. Windows XP Pro
Monitor is a GeForce FX 5200 NVIDIA Plug and Play with a VGA and DVI Dual Imput. 19" Widescreen.

Bus is a AGP 8X
128 MB.

All of which means nothing to me.

8. I'd understand if it were Vista...
I have yet to find out how to get it to recognize my HP monitor on my HP PC.

On older MSWindoze there is usually a "Display" icon in the Control Panel.

To get there... Start>>Control Panel.

Let me know what you see.

10. When I get to the properties that way, it doesn't let me
improve the resolution to 1440 x 900 which is is asking for. It only goes to 1280 x 800

On the lower right hand corner of the properties dialog there is an 'Advanced' button...
Have you clicked on it?

It brings up a new dialog where 'Monitor' is one of the Tabs.

13. Okay... To increase the screen resolution you have to find out if there's one...
which matches the refresh 'frequency'.

Typically a higher resolution comes at the cost of a slower 'frequency'.

14. I did that.
I'm now at 1152 x 864 at 75hz, but it is still hard on my eyes.

21. Increase. It says it should be at 1440 x 900 and it won't go that high.

23. There is another Tab on that second dialog which says... "Adapter".
On the lower left of that tab is a button which says... "List all modes"

You might have to set your adapter to a different mode.

9. Are you using VGA or DVI for the connection.
I think DVI gets wonky with that card.. If not using the VGA input already I would try giving that a shot.

I thought I was supposed to use both connections. Should I disconnect one?

15. Yes...
Try VGA first.

I think that card does have problems with widescreen monitors. I hear you have a better chance of it working with VGA.

6. Perhaps the video card will not handle the resolution you are looking for?
That would be my guess.

It worked for me.

One other thing to try..
http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=759

A safe resolution should be 1440 x 900
