What is up with the price of cheese these days?
I can't imagine it has to do with gas prices, but holy shit, a pound block of cheese costs more than a pound of meat.

And it's been steadily increasing....a couple of years ago, a 2 pound block cost about 3 dollars, and yesterday at the grocery store that same brand and size cost $7.69!

2. I don't know..
I only buy Tillamook cheese..

http://tillamookcheese.com/

About 7$ for a baby loaf(2#) is about right. And it is made about 100 miles away. The store brands are only about 1$ cheaper. I haven't noticed any change in price in the last five years. And I'm a cheap ass that tracks every sober dollar. YMMV.

6. you can get Tillamook for $4.99 on sale at Freddy's...
...several times a season. And you can get store brand 2# for $2.99 or $3.99 often -- just last week, in fact. Between Freddy's and Safeway, I can usually get it that cheap any time. And I buy four pounds a week.

Stores are really expensive here(UofO).. I am always shocked when I go back to Portland.. I can get the same thing at 25% off up there.

4. Dairy products were down at my local Costco...
2 LB mild cheddar $4.69, 2 gallons 2% milk $3.69, 4 LBs unsalted butter quarters $6.79

I'm sure that cream, cottage cheese, and some of the other stuff was down too, but I remembered the milk, butter, and cheese because this is what I buy fairly regularly.

7. I noticed just today that some dairy products were up from last week.
Milk was 50 cents higher for a half gallon, and yogurt was fifty cents higher for the four pack. I'd say we're about to get hit in the pocket book.

10. Well, milk prices are up, but how much of that goes to the farmers?
Milk prices are set by the distance of the farmers from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The farther away, the greater the price supports. I live 90 miles from Eau Claire, so how do the farmers in California do in comparison with the farmers near me? Wisconsin does not have as many members of Congress as California does to get that changed.

12. We need to cut the cheese

prices.

It's always been oddly expensive in this country...far more so than in other countries where the comparably positioned low-end 'regular' cheeses are actually palatable.
