I went to a play last night for the first time in about ten years!
A friend of my husband's was performing in it, so he reserved us tickets and we went and watched it.
It was SO much fun, but it made me miss doing theater myself, painfully! I wish I had to time participate in things like that, but I definitely don't.
Nevertheless, it was a great reminder of how fabulous it is to experience live theater; I am absolutely going to make it a point to do so more often!

1. My dear Lara!
Isn't it the best?

I always say the same thing!

There's just something so fresh, so immediate about live theater!

So...what'd you see?

it was from an Agatha Christie novel, I believe.
Our friend played the murderer!

2. When I was in college
We used to get tickets to all the local plays as part of our activity fee, it was a first come first serve situation, so I always was at the SU waiting when they started giving them out. It was our only chance to go out on the town.

6. Free entertainment is always good!
And even bad theater can be amusing in its own right!

3. community theatre is great fun
when your kids get just alittle older try joining a theatre as a family. We do more every year. Only Daughter#1 doesn't participate except as audience. My husband has done the most onstage roles, but I've auditioned and done three roles. Daughter #2 works lights and stage set, Daughter #3 auditions and has done numerous shows with her dad. They do the musicals, I do the comedy. Do it!

7. I suspect my kids would fit right in, on stage.
They're ALL drama queens. When I did community theater prior to high school, there were a few families who were always in plays, as well. My husband would never get on stage, but I bet he'd enjoy working on crew.

10. Coincidentally, we also went to a play last night.
We saw "The Exonerated", a searing and powerful drama about the death penalty, told from the true stories of 6 people who were wrongly incarcerated. Whew, what a testament to the human spirit. It was incredible.

We loooove seeing live theatre as much as we can. We also believe it's vital to expose our kids to it, as part of their well-rounded education. :D

:hi: Glad you had fun!

12. I can't wait to bring my oldest son to a play.
We just missed Romeo and Juliet, though I don't think he'd have dug that one, so much. This summer, though, perhaps we'll catch one!

13. We went to Broadway to see "Frost/Nixon" a spectacular new play
concerning the (Sir) David Frost interviews with Nixon that aired in the Spring of 1977. His first public interviews since resigning from the Presidency. Older DUers will recall what a TV event the 6 hours of interviews were!

Frank Langella played Nixon and Michael Sheen played David Frost.
If you saw the movie "THE QUEEN"...Sheen played Tony Blair. Got to meet him and have my picture taken with him at the Stage Door after the Show.

"There's Only ONE Broadway...and it's in New York"

Michael Sheen (above) as Sir David Frost.

14. I'll take live theatre over a movie any day
I went to see one myself tonight - it was a pay what you can. I got a $70 ticket for $5. :D

I have all the dates for the pay what you can/two for one/preview shows in the city for the spring/summer, so I get to see theatre for a fraction of the actual cost. :)

Glad you enjoyed it, Lara! :bounce:
