A power transformer across the street is getting ready to explode
It's really kinda cool to watch- I can see the electricity, bright as a welding arc (it sounds like it too!)- brilliant blue and yellow sparks are shooting out from it, and the lights in the quickie mart across the street are flickering. It's a pole-mounted unit, so I sure hope the oncoming cars see it and switch lanes- all that hot flaming oil can ruin a paint job when it blows!

2. Agreed!
Would seem a call to the utilities company might be in order.

5. It'd be like taking a picture of the sun
Nothing but a bright blue spot of light would appear

17. Lower the aperture; less light goes through the lens...
More of the exploding action would be visible, at the cost of the ambient surroundings being underexposed.

(See detractors, photography is FAR more than simply pointing and clicking. :D )

19. It also helps if you, like, have a camera...
...which I do not at this time. I had over a thousand bucks worth of Nikon SLR camera and lenses stolen from me, and somehow I never had the heart (or the money) to replace it all. And I had this most incredible 20mm lens...

12. Nice!
I see Dave once in a while when I go home to Yellow Springs OH. He likes having lunch at The Winds, and sometimes goes for a beer at the Trail Tavern. Nice guy.

I love that video.

10. I saw one in that state on my street.
The neat part was when the thick black power line running to the other poles turned reddish brown, right before the transformer blew and ignited the adjacent tree.

We had no power for days after that, but no one was hurt.

18. We have one go off a least once a month the next street over.
That sound will wake the dead.
