had anything on my walls, it probably would've fallen off. And this isn't even an especially chintzy apartment building. I'm talkin' about a hammering. I could hear it even through earplugs and a fan on. Normally I'm a live-and-let-live kind of guy, and I certainly don't begrudge others their right to get some, but I'm not always in the mood to be blasted awake at 2:00 am.

They (and their apparent roommate) also have a habit of talking REALLY LOUD ALL THE TIME. If they are having a conversation they are pretty much yelling at the top of their lungs.

Is this the kind of stuff you complain to the landlord about? How the hell would I even phrase that?

ME: "Yeah, about the people upstairs, could you do me a favor and ask them to pipe down and maybe not fuck so loud in the future?

LANDLORD REP: "Sure thing--that's what we're here for!"

2. Does sound ever really go UP in apartment buildings?
I mean I'm down with fighting fire with fire and all  but I think they will still have the upper hand.

3. well, you could slip a book about slow tantric sex under their door.
They'd still be going at it, but at least it would be quieter and since some sessions last for hours, they'd probably not be talking as much. :)

Kevin Smith, the filmmaker, tells a story like that on his dvd, A Night With Kevin Smith: Evening Harder. He says his little girl gets out of bed and will wander around from time to time, and sometimes will come to sleep in their room. But he said he and his wife were getting pretty wild, I think he may have said she even talks dirty too, and when they finish he looks over and his little daughter is standing by the side of the bed, haha.

8. You know what would be really funny...
is if you chimed in loudly at some point: AGAIN, AGAIN, YES, YES, OH GOD, DON'T EVER STOP... and so on... I bet you would hear an embarrassed silence or laughing. They might even invite you up.

13. The scary thing is this young couple is kinda "thugged up"
and I'd prefer to keep our direct interaction limited. But I did think about shouting out "I can hear every thing you're saying and doing right now!" But I didn't want to intrude.

17. The other suggestion I have is earplugs
You can get them at the drugstore. My bedroom window is 3 feet from my neighbors driveway and she comes home late and slams every door possible. I got some at the manufacturing plant I worked at and they work like a charm. Could be a problem in terms of hearing an alarm clock, but you can get something that flashes, like a deaf person would have.

18. I tried the earplugs, but they were slamming the bed around
so I could FEEL the movement as well.

I ain't kidding about it being a hammering. I didn't hear any complaints, but I was starting to feel sorry for the girl.

That had to hurt.

27. All joking aside
Call the landlord. No need to get graphic, just say that there is a lot of noise coming from their apartment at night after 10 p.m., and you would like the management to ask them to stop it. You're probably not the only one who is having problems with the noise, and the more complaints the management gets, the more they might be able to legally do about it.

And if by "thugged up" you mean "participating in criminal activity" you should let the management know about that, too.

Passionate sex is a beautiful thing, but man, some of us have to get up in the morning!

14. Knock on their door and ask them if they can keep it down.
Let them know that you could hear every moan, groan, grunt, and "I'm gnimmuc." If they don't cooperate after that, then tell the landlord.

Sometimes when ppl actually know that you can hear them, they try to be more quiet, unless they are just trying to show off, or just have no respect for the person beneath or above them. I've heard my neighbors occasionally, and there was a time my friend(who happened to be my neighbor at the time) could here us It's not a big deal as long as it's not an every night occurence.

However it was kind of embarassing when she admitted to hearing us, and we aren't even that loud.

if you are waking up at 2am because of the fun that your neighbor is having, then they are extremely loud!!! I don't have anything against ppl having fun. I just hate it if they are and I'm not!!! :hide:

21. Being hearing impaired this is exactly why I can't live in an apartment building
The stereo and TV would be too loud and disturb my neighbors. I have lived in apartments before and it really sucks that you can't do anything without the neighbors pounding on the wall or ceiling trying to get you to quiet down.Right now I share a wall with my Grandparents and they are more deaf than I. The only time they complain is when I get a little tipsy and get carried away with playing loud tunes with a lot of bass.

24. Yup -- I complained to my landlord at my old apartment
And, that's what I said. I asked if she could ask them to either keep it down, move to a different room, or do the noisy stuff before midnight. She asked them nicely, and they complied... although the neighbors and I always smirked at each other after that.

Like you, they were LOUD. As in, they woke me up loud.

26. I've had that happen...
the couple in the apartment above me had an absolute MARATHON encounter one night. I'm talking HOURS. At first I was annoyed, but it got to be almost comical, then astonishing...then annoying again. I wrote them a little note of congratulations and taped it to their door the next morning.

Never heard them again.

How often does it happen? Have you tried sleeping in another room? Are you afraid to bring i up? I'd rather the neighbor come to me directly, rather than be told by a third party...that may make things even worse..and embarassing for the couple.

Yes, it was as loud as it sounds, with their moans on top of it. :eyes:

31. Steps:
1)Find out thier names; or at least one of them; preferrably the guy's.
2)Have a VERY loud session of your own; and yell out HIS name in the middle of it.

On second thought; that might get you shot. Nevermind.
