"Star Wars: Flogging Dead Wookies"
Well as if the first two prequels weren't torture enough, it looks like some sequels might be on the way as well if you believe the latest rumours amongst the rabid 'Wars' fanbase which emerged in the latest issue of Brit movie mag Hot Dog according to TheForce.Net.

The December 2003 issue did an article on Peter Mayhew, better known as the walking car horn called Chewbacca, where its indicated that "Not only has he been rescued from obscurity and given the chance to reprise his role as our Wookiee comrade for Episode III, but his contract also stipulates that he'd be required to appear in Episodes 7, 8, and 9".

1. I heard about 7, 8, and 9 back in '94
He's had this plan for years, and there will always be a new generation of kids to sell the same stuff to.

3. Heck, Lucas mentioned them in the early 80's
and every so often he'll mention them again, only to quickly retract his statements.

2. When would 7, 8 and 9 take place I wonder?
*Spoiler*

Chewie dies in the New Jedi Order books, so I'm guessing it would be before that. But so much of what happened post Jedi has been covered in books already, it's hard to imagine where they'd fit the sequels...

4. Wow! I thought Lucas was adamant against 7, 8, and 9
But on the other hand, I also assumed that the greedy bastard, once the money started flowing in from Episode I, would ever consider not making more product.

So I'm surprised, but not really surprised.

I'll bet you ten to one that 7-9 suck, too.

5. just as long as Lucas turns some writing over to someone else
Lucas' creative ideas are great and he comes close in episodes I & II to making good movies but he has a real problem with dialogue and cliched scenes.
Can you imagine what he might have done had he enlisted someone of Raimi, Burton or Jackson's skills to help flesh this out? Bottom line, he needs help tweaking these things in my opinion

6. He needs to get good directors
as well as writers.
George needs to check his ego and do whats best for the series.

8. Lucas is a horrible director; no surprise that he hates doing it
Word is that he likes to work with his digital creations more than real people, which is why the prequels are stuffed to overflowing with CGI and why the actors (who are actually GOOD actors) perform and are blocked like they are in a junior-high-school play.

Lucas absolutely must hand the directing and writing chores to someone else. As for himself, he can should adopt the Roddenberryesque role of "Creative Consultant", or maybe become to ILM what Richard Taylor is to WETA.

9. Yes.
The reason "The Empire Srtikes Back" was so good was that Lucas turned some of the writing and production duties over to other people. I think, in retrospect, that it made that move better.

Sure, I would love to see the last three chapters made into a film. As long as they don't suck like I & II.

10. It had been conceived as a 9 movie saga
What I heard in the 80s.

11. Last I heard, Lucas there would be no eps. 7-9.
...and given the decline in quality from the first batch to eps. 1-2, I'm hoping he means it.

I'm guessing the contract says eps. 7, 8, 9 just to make sure they're covered in case Lucas gets greedy and changes his mind.
