Anyone know anything about collectable books? My friend has a book signed
by Gene Odom (from lynyrd skynyrd). It was signed at the Fox Theater in Atlanta the night before the plane crash. She was wanting to know if it was worth anything.

Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ghost

1. She might be able to get around a hundred bucks for it
depending on condition, and depending on a buyer. Maybe $85, maybe $150.

That it's signed doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it can.

2. I'm too lazy to look-up the answer
but did he die in the crash? If so, and she can prove (confirm through some means other than her own word) the provance (the date it was signed, etc.), it might be worth a bit as it was probably among the last things he ever signed. Otherwise, it's value is only really great to a big fan of the band.

It'd be worth more if it was signed by the entire pre-crash band.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help...I collect rare books, but this is well outside my area of interest.

3. He survived the crash..
Gene Odom was Ronnie Van Zant's personal bodyguard, security for the Lynyrd Skynyrd band. They were friends since they were kids fishing together. Gene is a survivor of the plane crash that took the life of his best friend along with Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines and Dean Kilpatrick. Gene is now disabled as a result of the plane crash. As a way to remember Ronnie Van Zant, he has written a book about some of the times he spent with Ronnie. The book is titled Lynyrd Skynyrd I'll Never Forget You, and it follows the two boys growing up together. It's really a story about two lives and two friends. Gene wants to share some of these joyous memories with all of the Lynyrd Skynyrd fans. This internet site was created to bring this book to the public. And now, Gene has written another book titled Lynyrd Skynyrd, Remembering the Free Birds of Southern Rock to bring you even closer to the Free Birds. http://www.lynyrdskynyrdbook.com/about.html

But I misunderstood what my friend said. She has a joint that came from Ronnie Van Zant the night before the crash. The book was written afterwards, but was signed at the Fox in Atlanta during some kind of "Freebird Foundation" project.. or something. I'm waiting for a more clarifying email from her.

Thanks,
Ghost
