Has anyone ever been an Executor/executrix of an estate?
i have a question, My Dad just called--that doesn't happen much so i'm immediately worried that someone is sick or has died--neither thankfully, so he asks me when i'm coming home for a visit, i tell him and thats when he asks me to be the executrix of his estate. WTF i'm thinking, he has a wife and he also has my sister like 10 miles down route 128 so why in hell does he need me to do it, i live 3,000 miles away. Since he has a wife can he bypass her like that? He also asked me not to discuss this with my sister, like i'm gonna, not but i'm also not going to lie to her if she should she ask me and i told him that.

So when i go home this summer i have to go to some law firm he uses and sign things i guess, is this a big responsibility and can i fuck up it royally?

1. My sister and I were co-executors of our mother's will.
There are only the two of us and our father died years ago. All it involved (the will was very cleverly written to protect all of us) was assuring that the terms of the will were carried out. The lawyer filed it and that was that, all of her property was equally divided between us.

Your situation may be different, given that he has a wife who apparently is not your mother and the fact he has asked you not to discuss it with your sister. Could get interesting, depending on how your relationships with your sister and stepmother are. But he has placed great trust in you and your sense of fairness. Trust the lawyer in this case.

He can name anyone he wants to execute the will.

2. that helps thanks. He was a tad cryptic "Why all the cloak and dagger shit Dick?"
his name is Richard but everyone calls him Dick--he lives it believe me. The whole thing about him not wanting my sister to know kind of pisses me off because when she finds out her anger will be directed at me since her won't be there to answer the question. My relationship with my step mom is really good, she's a great person and a wonderful grandmother to my daughter. the whole is a weird but i guess in his own head he must have his reasons, he just wasn't sharing them today.
