Bad cooks and bad food.
Who is/was the worst cook in your family? What dishes convinced you of that person's "worst cook" status?

I'll start. My grandfather's second wife liked to make jello salad with stuff in it. Sounds fairly normal so far, right? But the stuff she put in it tended to be cottage cheese and/or Veg-All.
Then of course, there was the stuffing into which she put so much sage that the stuffing was green....

1. My sister's not very good. Her food is edible, but never exciting.
But, also never burned or tasteless.

She'd be the worst in our family. I might have suggested my dad, who could not cook very much; but, the stuff he cooked (steaks and other meats on the grill, scalped potatoes, a few others) were fucking excellent.

So, dad had the smallest repertoire, but it was good stuff. Sister has a larger repertoire, but it's all just okay. Mom had huge repertoire, and slightly better than okay, sometimes brilliant.

I won't talk about me, the gourmet. :-) Even most of my cousins, male and female, are pretty good cooks, as are most of my aunts and uncles. Generally, the men cook the tastier food, which is kinda odd, but there ya go.

god love her.. But she could ruin a perfectly good steak by 'swissing' it..

and dont get me started on tuna casserole..

She is pretty much the reason I am a good cook..

4. I'm the cook.
Dad: his best effort is fried spam. He once tried to make sloppy joes and neglected to read the directions...voila! Tomato sauce sandwiches!

Grandfather: oatmeal with meatballs. True story.

Mom: hamloaf.

Brother: it's all good for him as long as there's plenty of mayo. x(

Sister: favorite food is boiled dinner. Boiled meat, potato, and vegetables. No salt.

(When I visit, I always make sure to bring a dish so we don't go hungry.)

5. My husband's grandmother...
She takes something that should be good and goes three steps further with it. I'm always scared to eat anything over there. His aunt is probably a little worse, but I refuse to eat anything she serves.

6. That'd have to be on her side.
I HATE eating dinner or any get-together at her relatives. Those people couldn't cook something edible at gunpoint. It's always casseroley glop, grey dry meat or beans mixed with some kind of au-gratin hillbilly concoction. I try so hard not to torpedo vomit. You don't get crappy food when you come to my house.

7. My grandma, Q.E.P.D.
Lost her taste buds when she hit 70. Still insisted on fixing breakfast for us when we stayed over. She used to put so much salt on the scrambled eggs, that they were gritty and crunchy from the undissolved salt.
