Japanese fooled in poodle scam (were sold SHEEP as poodles)
Edited on Thu Apr-26-07 10:18 AM by slackmaster
Thursday Apr 26 20:55 AEST

Thousands of Japanese have been swindled in a scam in which they were sold Australian and British sheep and told they were poodles.

Flocks of sheep were imported to Japan and then sold by a company called Poodles as Pets, marketed as fashionable accessories, available at $1,600 each.

That is a snip compared to a real poodle which retails for twice that much in Japan.

The scam was uncovered when Japanese moviestar Maiko Kawamaki went on a talk-show and wondered why her new pet would not bark or eat dog food....

You can't make this stuff up.

1. reminds me of the Urban Legend from Wisconsin
there was always a story going around about guys from Chicago who came up for deer hunting. They supposedly shot a cow and brought it to the ranger station for tagging, thinking it was a deer.

5. Sounds like an urban legend
Field dressing a cow would create a "gut tsunami" of immense proportion. Then, dragging a cow through the woods would take some strength. And, tying it to the roof of the car would probably destroy the car.

Whitetail deer are very small and lean, compared to the average cow.

2. How much do sheep cost?
I can't imagine sheep would be all that much cheaper than poodles. It's not a total bust, anyway. They could eat the sheep and make a nice sweater to boot.

3. Nowhere near $1,600
Especially for one small enough to pass for a poodle.

6. LOL! Oh, you reminded me of that funny Woody Allen movie!
"Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask" 1972
<snip> (from an Amazon.com customer review)
2. What is Sodomy-Gene Wilder plays a doctor who is shocked to learn that an Armenian shepherd has had sex with one of his sheep. When the man brings the sheep in, the doctor finds himself falling in love and conducting an affair with a sheep. Sounds morbid, but is just used as a (slightly insane) metaphor.
