I can't go on the cruise
Last night I came back from the weekend in Maine. My son was supposed to have fed my cats and given one of them her asthma medication. He didn't.

I can't go away for 2 weeks when I can't even trust him to take care of the cats over-night.

Poor cats. I fed them before I left Saturday morning, but by the time I got home at 9:30 last night, they were empty.

And Millie was breathing heavy.

1. Can't you board the cat at your vet?

2. Really, MissMille - don't let your son's irresponsibility cancel your vacation

Another $100-200 or so will let you go on the cruise and rest easy that the kitties are being taken care of. Hell, you might even take the cost out of his hide somehow. How old is he?

3. there's 3 cats
what do you suppose it would cost to board 3 cats for 2 weeks?

Besides that... they'd probably be in a cage... for 2 weeks. I couldn't do that to them.

6. My vet lets the cats out when it's

not too busy and when they close the office.

You might want to check into other " Kitty Hotels" too.

4. MissMillie, I recommend this, too.
I know it can be a bit pricey,

but---

the peace of mind, knowing your cats are OK
and well taken care of are so worth it.

We do this every time we are out of town.

:hi:

5. A petsitter?
Ask your vet to recommend someone. Or maybe one of the vet techs will come by after work for a fee...

8. it's not just the food
Millie, who will hide at the very thought of a stranger coming into the house, has to have daily asthma medication. If someone she doesn't know comes into the house, she won't come out until they're gone.

10. I know... thanks
When I moved into the town I'm in now (7.5 years ago), my life pretty much revolved around my son and his activities. Now that he's grown up, I've become a bit of a hermit. I really don't know anyone. The other parents I met (at the activities my son was in) are still wrapped up in their kids' lives (they had more than one kid) and of course, they're all married.

I go to work, then I come home, make dinner, watch Olbermann and go to bed.

After all the trauma I had with my son and his unwise choices and his inability to live in the same house and show me any consideration (so I moved out) it's been nice to lead a quiet existence.

But when I need something, I'm screwed. My son's not trustworthy and I don't have anyone else.

11. I'm sorry MissMillie
I wish I could do something to help but I live too far away :( I do, however, think a bunch of us should tell your son he's being an ass. I'm sorry.

12. thanks... it's ok
they'll be other cruises.

I think I am done taking in any more animals.

My cats are 8, 7 and 4.... I hope they live long and healthy lives, but I am done taking in animals. I thought having grown kids would free me up a bit more, but then one of my little furry loves was diagnosed with asthma. That's just how it is.
