to be honest, I have no earthly idea why I have a page. I guess so I can be "cool" and say I have a myspace page. I do like some of the things about it. But then again, well, it's just another place to get lost I guess.

I don't say much on my blog of interest to anyone. It gets viewed by my myspace friends I guess? Or so the counter says.

MOst of my myspace friends are DU'ers. So it's just another connection to DU for me.

edit a web page dedicated to ME, with pictures and a bio of ME, because I quite frankly don't think I'M SPECIAL. I'm just who I am and nothing more nor less. Otherwise, I'm simply communicating via an online bulletin board site shared with OTHERS.

you would realize that it is an online community where you have an opportunity to share lots more stuff with people in different ways.

It is not anymore a self aggrandizing place than DU is, where we have nearly daily pic threads, journals, posts, the lounge, special forums to post writing, pictures, etc.

it is a very similar kind of site except it is organized differently and there are a lot more variables to connect you to others in different ways- common interests, etc.

It's your choice not to do it. I just think it is a bit snarky to have someone say they are not going to do it because it is "rampant narcissism" that is just on its face wrong.

I might have thought the same things but I've found that in enjoy having the page. It is open only to my myspace friends, of whom any DU'er is welcome and people who actually know me. I am not there to advertise something to the world. It is just another form of communication. I have probably spent all of 1 hour in editing, laying out, etc. Some people go to great lengths to do it.

I've found out some really cool stuff about people on DU that I never might have found out otherwise. It also gives people a way to post bulletins that may or may not be relevant to a lot of things, but it is a chance to mass send to all of your myspace friends this bulletin that they can read or not read (it doesn't go to their mailbox)

Anyway, to say critical things about something that many people here on DU find to be something they like is in my opinion a bit of a flamebait. And the poster to whom I replied (not you here btw) said it was "rampant narcissim" which I found akin to someone who is drinking heavily at the bar saying, oh those damned drug addicts down at the crack house. It's just ironic to say, and it is the pot calling the kettle black in so many ways.

So that is my explanation of this...

31. It's a great question...

first start a thread saying you want to have friends on your myspace account and then people will send you friend requests and then you will have myspace friends.

other than that, the sky is the limit I suppose. It's a great place to showcase your photography, and anything else you want, and you can limit the people who can visit your site from public to just your friends, to some other variables as well.

There are some groups for photographers and other entertainment types which myspace started out as being more for bands and entertainment types to have a way to showcase their wares so to speak.

So explore, make friends, etc.
