I voted against the "family values" candidate today.

Along with paying my taxes, I voted in our mayoral election. It was Good Citizen Day around here!

I hadn't been sure who I'd vote for. I know the current mayor and like him personally, but not real fond of some basic administrative problems the city seems to have--with practical things like snow removal, clean parks, you know, the things city government is supposed to do. The election is supposed to be non-partisan, though the incumbent is very active in Dem activities (that's how I know him).

I went to a candidate's forum, and I didn't see anything I really didn't like about the other guy. People kept telling me he was "conservative", but at the forum he talked about practical things that I care about.

Then, yesterday, there was a flyer in my door from the challenger. It went on and on about how he's the "family values" candidate, working for "traditional values", crap like that. I thought,"You're gonna be mayor of a small city. How could you possibly do anything that enforces 'family values'?"

Didn't really matter. The minute I saw that phrase, my decision was made. I voted for the not-very-good-administrator incumbent.

So, with any luck, we'll have crappy snow removal again next winter, but not "family values".
