early on in the '04 election cycle this was a clear theme.

The hippie 60's left versus the establishment

Kerry was the worst of the worst-from similar background as W and he turned on them. An insider who went to the other side. They played up this aspect a lot and made sure that everyone who didn't get to enjoy the 60's or who was bitter about not enjoying the 60's or whose "side" lost some place or standing while others gained ;-) had to make sure this traitor this turncoat didn't unseat the heir apparent to THE MAN's legacy (Reagan). Vonnegut represents more of this so they have to do this to keep that going. See the 60's were bad-the right found out that this tag line didn't work but "returning to the 50's" really is a crytalization of their message.

Notice how lucky Vonnegut was to escape dying in a completely unneccessary horrific action* and then had the audacity to tell about it.


*it hit me the other when talking to my brother, who turned me onto Vonnegut, about they would have bombed Dresden. It was a great city of beauty and architecture and art ....then it hit me-it may not have been simply to emasculate the Germans or to show that the Allied forces had unfettered reign over the skies it COULD HAVE a great cover for theft. There is no way to tell what WAS there if everything and everyone who would know is burned away. Just a thought.

The presidency of the congenitally senile Ronald Reagan heralded the failure of the Great American Experiment. In his wake we see the ruin of a once-grand nation and the rewarding of all that is base and vile in greedy corporatism. His disastrous policies reap simultaneous worldwide destruction in the cultural, political, economic, and environmental spheres, to an extent unprecedented in human history, and their reach their fruition under George W. Bush, who endeavors through willful incompetence to destroy what little survived the blight and corruption of the 1980's.
