4. Oh No!
Does that mean you have no hot water too? I would suggest hot water bottles or filling anything with hot water to keep the pets warm!

:scared:

Good luck!

It's -6 here in Cambridge!

12. -6 in Newton - and Matcom is between us! - Matt get a new thermometer
and the coldest point is to be midnight Thursday/Friday morning!

With wind they are saying -40 - as in feels like, 10 minutes for bare skin to get frostbite!

Man, this is like Vermont and the squeaky snow one gets at -10.

I didn't expect this down south in Boston!

:-)

all the pipes froze. Got it somewhat back to normal, but the pipes are starting to refreeze again.

Good luck.

19. That's a good thing
Otherwise, you'd be freezing your ass off. It's just as cold in CT, but no Mexico for me. Have fun though!!!

11. Poor Matt! It's only -12 here, dew point -22 but no wind.
It's actually better here than they predicted. You need to watch for broken pipes NOW. They usually don't start to leak until after the pipes thaw and that takes awhile after the heat comes back. So make another trip or two home today to check. The one very good thing about this place is that my propane heaters work off a mercury switch and don't need power to come on. If the power goes out the air circulators won't work but the hear will. Good luck Matt and watch for those leaks! :hi:

17. Hope you remembered to keep a trickle going
through the cold water taps. Otherwise your entire piping system will freeze solid on you...

(Lived in cold weather country a large part of my life. I know what I speak of...)

18. Woke up once in the middle of the night. It was -26.
This was perhaps 10 years ago. I looked over at the clock to see what time it was and the clockface was blank.

We had no power. I called the power company, and they said a crew was on their way. A tranformer up on a pole had exploded.

I looked out the window, and could see the crew pulling up in the truck. They changed the tranformer in about 25 minutes. I remember thinking, "Those guys are really earning their pay tonight."

Luckily, we had boiler heating in the house, and the boiler and pipes and radiators stay warm for a long time, even after it shuts down. It never got too cold in the house.

If your gas is still working, you might be able to fire up the furnace by shorting the thermostat.

You want to know cold? I'll tell you cold.

I took my daily walk a little early today and had to put the hood up on my sweatshirt...it was only 54º! Yesterday I wore shorts on my walk as it was around 72º. That's a drop of almost 20º!!

Not only that, but we haven't had any precipitation in about 3 weeks. You try living through the absolute boredom of incessantly blue skies and sunshine!@#$%! The worst is that there looks to be no change in the forecast for AT LEAST another week!

Oh yeah, I live in Vegas. :)

BTW - I lived in the NE for the first 48 years of my life, so I'm being a joik.
