11. The trick is to run with the wind.
Use a sheet to catch the wind if you can. It'll pull you when you get tired.

29. But they are facing into the wind!
It's a NE wind. So, I think that'll make it tougher.

12. The finish line is a few blocks from my apartment...
...pssst...the Big Board at the MGM Grand has "Kenyan in canoe, kayak, dinghie or ark" as the odds-on favorite to win. This goddam thing will rival the Iron Man race before noon if the rain keeps up.

the 26 miles on a treadmill? I thought that was pretty cool. A friend of mine ran it last year. Finished and everything.

and I thought how horrible it would be to run 26 miles on a Treadmill. 26 miles period is tough of course (more than I could've ever done even when I ran) but at least on the road there's variety.

16. From the look of the weather radar, this is going to go on most if the day.
It is torrential here and very windy. Power's out and so is the phone. Boy, I think they should have postponed the race. It doesn't seem fair to put runners and spectators through this.

those poor bastards are in for a long day. they are asking residents to open their garages so runners can get out of the rain.

30. How do you cancel the race ?
Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 09:38 AM by Breeze54
Some runners have been planning to run for years!!! Saved money up for the flight to MA, etc. They'd never cancel it. To much involved. This isn't the first time they had rain for the race. ;)

31. The whole thing was weird.
I couldn't sleep well last night through the thing. This was like a storm we get with bad hurricanes every 4-5 years in July or August, not in April. Very unusual in my experience and I'd venture to guess it's some climate change patterns if I didn't know any better. Good thing global warming isn't real. :sarcasm:
