I have a stereo again
Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 01:28 AM by Oeditpus Rex
and am accepting suggestions for what "record" (or "LP") I should put on the "turntable."

:bounce:

(If you're unfamiliar with these archaic terms, PM me for an explanation.)

Edit: I went with Chicago Live at Carnegie Hall. Right now, they're playing "Fancy Colours." :bounce:

12. So do I
I've got 'em on LP and CD. :D

Although I do have one on vinyl, "A Nice Pair," that I don't have on CD.

What happened to your turntable? Maybe the belt just broke, like mine?

16. I'm not sure.
It's actually the sound. The turntable TURNS, but no sound comes out. I tried the speakers on the TV and they worked, so something's going on with the turntable.

21. Change the cartridge
If everything else with the stereo works properly and all the connections are good, that's the only thing it could be.

35. I guess you could call it that
The cartridge is the thing the stylus ("needle") lives in. If you can give me the brand and model number of the turntable, I can find a cartridge for it.

Or, you can just go here: http://www.turntableneedles.com/

And it's different on vinyl. You can have it on CD and listen to it all day long, but the minute that stylus hits -- it's different.

24. More like an imperative
I mean, I can't not do it. It's impossible; you might as well ask me to sit on my hands and still talk.

I prefer prop guitar, though. And drums (got the sticks for that). And keyboards.

I've actually thought of forming a prop band. :7

'Course, if I knew someone with a camera and an editing suite, I could be the whole band. :headbang:

Of course, you'll have to go to Austrailia to find it, as it was never released stateside... (I bought my copy in England in '74.)

32. Keeping up with the times is overrated
not to mention over-priced. By the time you've got the newest, most up-to-date gizmo/gadget, it's obsolte.

So...old school all the way. I've still got a turntable and cassettes and vinyl -- I've even got wax.

I *don't* have an i-pod. Or an MP3. Or music downloaded to my computer.

I've got a couple of CDs, though. That's my concession.

And with it, a stable niche of buyers. I'm too young to have bought anything in vinyl when it was the main format, but I like the sound of it. :)
