Dammit! I can't find my w-2!!
I was just getting ready to mail my tax return. It's done, and I had the w-2 when I did it. But now I CANNOT find the thing!!

Anyone know what happens if you mail your return, the figures are all correct, but there's no w-2 attached?

Next year, I'll get organized. Promise.

1. I don't think you
need one if you file electronically. Also, see if you can get a reprint through your HR department. Where I work we can access pay stubs online and I think we can get copies of our W2s there as well. Pretty cool!

3. I don't actually have an HR department.
My secretary and I are the only ones who get w-2s. Everyone else--organists, choir director, custodian--get 1099's I think. I will ask my treasurer for another one. I'll look embarrassed and admit I'm an irresponsible slug when doing so.

5. well, if your house is anything like my house, if you had it when you did the return,
then it must be in ONE of those piles of paper lying all around the house... ;-)

Just go slowly and methodically through all the piles. (if you rifle through 'em too quickly, you'll miss it. Not that that's ever happened to me, of course. ;-) )

6. I know. It's got to be here somewhere. It can't have disappeared.
Can it?

7. Hey Ralph, is that you? Why did you change your login?
My boyfriend just said the same thing. He got everything ready but now he can't find his W2s.

He filed his Federal and State by e-file, but his State was rejected for some reason. Now he has to email in his State form with the W2s. Hopefully, they'll turn up.

Good luck to you. Nothing can get lost in a house. Re-trace your steps and dig deep. They have to be somewhere.

8. Okay, I found it. And I feel utterly stupid.
It was tucked between some pages in the 1040 booklet.

Something about doing taxes makes me a moran. I think it has to do with the feeling Uncle Sam is looking over my shoulder.

9. It's always the last place you look. I put things away
so I don't lose them then can't remember where it was. I'm 59

10. I'm glad you found it, but I don't think you really need it anymore.
I file electronically, and the software downloads the W-2 information directly from the IRS, so they already have it on file.
