how do I tell a friend that his new girlfriend-thing is too dumb and annoying
for me to be able to stand ever being around her? most of my other friends have reached the same conclusion. she's not really his girlfriend...yet - but they're dating and he's been bringing her around a lot (my house is a sort of central meeting place for all my friends)

my bud is a great guy but a bit superficial - this girl is smokin hot, for sure, but that all disappears once she opens her mouth.

i don't even know where to begin to describe her stupidity, there are so many examples to choose from (and i just met this girl 3 weeks ago). from challenging me to prove that outer space is real and actually exists ("have you ever been there?") to just last night trying to tell me that there is absolutely nothing in this world that can be proven true ("truth isn't real") and that high school science classes are bullshit because it can't be proven and it's just in a book and am i supposed to believe it just because my teacher said so??

i could go on..and on...and on...

she's a goddamn art school girl, one of those types who think that because they took a couple new age philosophy courses they suddenly know the meaning of everything and are so much more enlightened than me. she goes on long, uninformed rants about suburbia and capitalism and modern art when she herself is only 19 years old, lives at home with her parents (in the SUBURBS!), and doesn't pay for a damn thing herself (including her $35,000 per year art school tuition)

i could rant on and on about this for awhile but i will try to cut it short - basically she is stupid and i hate her and would be very happy if i never had to see her again.

how do i (and my other friends) tell our friend all of this? that his arm candy makes us all want to commit mass homicide?

3. perhaps, but this is only her first year!
it feels unusual having feelings this strong towards someone...usually i'm always able to let it go and overlook it and not let people get me all worked up. something about this girl though...

maybe it was the whole trying to lecture and condescend me in my own house bit:grr:

(btw, she called herself a "relativist")

year of college and his "metanarrative" changed depending on what was being discussed in his classes.

9. aye, i always loved that
in the one year that i tried the whole college thing, i took a couple philosophy classes. there were always those kids who would stand up before the class (in a 100 or 200 level class) and go on and on as if they were the second coming of Socrates

taking a 4 month philosophy class doesn't make you a philosopher!

 indeed...but what can you do?

p.s. my plans keep changing but i should be out east late may/early june - i will let you know for sure as the time nears

20. Hopefully
Speaking as a guy, it can be very easy to start thinking that way if the girl pushes the right buttons on you, so to speak. With me, I was shy and kind of naive and had never really dated the "hot girl" when I was younger. So, when I found myself in that situation 10 years ago, it's very easy to get caught up in the situation. It kind of just happens.

And, I'm guessing if he is that enamored of her, a buddy-to-buddy chat with the friend probably won't do much good, either.

14. Maybe they don't actually TALK much when they are together.
It could be one of those "shut up and get nekkid" things and those usually last as long as he sex holds up. She may be gone before you realize it. The other option is he keeps on doing her but just doesn't take her out in public.

Either way YOU don't have to talk to her unless you choose to...

23. Unfortunately
I ended up marrying the "shut up & get naked" hot girl 10 years ago... :nopity:

All the warning signs were there, but it was kind of hard to see them at the time. But, I did learn my lesson after we got divorced, and I'm thankful it didn't last long enough for us to have kids.

Unless you want to ensure that

b) your friend stays with her twice as long as he would if you let things run their natural course

Just because she's obnoxious doesn't mean you have to be.

I doubt it will do much good, and it could hurt, or even end, your friendship. A hot woman can blind a guy to a lot of her faults with her hotness...

and, certainly don't tell him you think she is dumb. He might very well think her philosphical questions are either cute/charming or actually good questions that he hadn't thought of before as a woman's "hotness" can make a man think she is more intelligent than she really is... (I read that somewhere once. While with women, it is often the opposite. It's not always true in either case)

i do believe the great majority of you are right...i probably shouldn't say anything

though if i'm drunk and she starts off on one of her stupidity tangents...i may not be able to hold my tongue - here's to hoping it all works out for the best!

and my roommates (2 other dudes) realized what bothers us so much about her...in our period of living together we have spent plenty of time making fun of people exactly like her, only it took us awhile to realize that she being at our house was nothing more than a living, breathing manifestation of all of our past mockery...she is, basically, a textbook stereotype: completely predictable, completely boring, and completely maddening...:banghead:

i will do my best to keep my mouth shut, but i make no promises....

36. Stand BEHIND her and mimic her....
of course, be sure to give a sample of her conversation to the others ahead of time. I was dating this guy once, and we were visiting some friends of his who were waiting for yet another guy to come over. One of them started making fun of the guy before he got there. When he did get there, not only was all the build up true, the fun-making person stood behind him and mimicked him every step of the way and I could barely contain myself. I never saw either of them before or since, but I never forgot how funny it was.
