Bad director, Good film.
Kevin Smith- "Clerks." Hysterical film, for as shoestring as it was. It's a pity he's been trying to replicate it for the past 13 years.

Honorable mention to George Lucas. The man is an visionary in terms of storytelling (not writing) and production, but his direction sucks (save the first Star Wars).

3. Paul Verhoeven, "The Soldier Of Orange."
One of his early Dutch films. Good WWII story and plenty of casual, European-style nudity.

A great film; he also made Porky's which was funny in a very juvenile way; other than those he was pretty bad.

6. Robert Aldrich - "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane"
Ok...some people may not think of "Baby Jane" as a cinematic masterpiece.

But, hell...who could ever resist this one in a lifetime pairing of two legends (who basically detested each other)? "Baby Jane" is delicious fun. :-)

Bette Davis is absolutely frightening.

10. I simply can't comprehend those people who think that way.
Hell, that scene where Bette Davis is kicking a prone Joan Crawford...and looking a little too enthusiastic while doing so...is alone worth seeing. :-)

11. Well, "Laura" and "Advise and Consent"
But otherwise, Preminger's films were pretty much dreck.

9. Hey, I LIKE Kevin Smith films!
Except for Jersey Girl, which HE even makes fun of. You're right, though. He's never been able to capture the original magic of "Clerks", even considering his brilliant casting of Rosario Dawson in "Clerks II".

See?
