I FUCKING HATE COMCAST!!!!!!!!!!!
You know customer service is bad, when the situation actually gets worse when you call to resolve a simple problem,. They sent a signal to my box that totally destroyed my new fancy TV.

Thanks, Comcast!

1. Destroyed your TV????
Day-am!

Does make me wonder, though, if there might have been a problem in the TV itself. I've had Comcast send signals to my cable box before, with no problems.

Whatever the problem, it sucks.

The box is actually at fault. They admitted it. It will be my 6th DVR in as many months when I get it replaced.

Edited on Wed Apr-11-07 02:07 PM by Katina
I had a problem with my local comcast service people so I called Philadelphia and they got it fixed in 1 day. The CEO doesn't like getting customer complaint calls. The hardest part is finding the phone number...naturally.

Also detestable: the unannounced switching and/or blacking out of channels (Where did TBS go? Where is C-SPAN?).

And cable rates have more or less DOUBLED in the 10 years I've had the service. :grr:

The fuckers give us seven shopping networks, as well as fourteen other channels that are totally useless. We cannot get the western channel or the game show network. Out of 72 channels we pay for, maybe ten are watchable on a regular basis.

DirecTV is a satellite system. As long as you have a clear view of the Southern sky, you should be good.

16. I am right there with you. Right now our cable barely works but neither my
husband nor I are even bothering to call Comcast because we know it's just going to end up costing us multiple vacation days (heaven forbid they come out in the evening or on weekends) only to go to shit in a few weeks. Our choices are Comcast or no t.v. at all. The dish doesn't work in our neighborhood and without cable I think we can *maybe* get in WGN. We're putting our house on the market this year and are hoping there is some relief in sight when we move.

I hate Comcast so much. I can't even count how many vacation days I've wasted waiting for someone to show up, how many hours I've spent on the phone talking to very polite but completely unhelpful people, and how much my blood pressure has suffered over fucking cable t.v...

grrr...

Well, I'm sorry to hear about your problems. Have fun raising holy hell. I hope it gets resolved! :hi:

19. I went with no tv at all. Their basic cable prices are absurd
something like 20 dollars a month for 5 channels. 50 bucks or so if you want comedy central, discovery etc. considering I just downloaded last nights "Deadliest Catch" and will get last night's Daily Show in about 40 minutes, there's no point giving comcast anything.

34. It's absurd when the service only works perfectly about about 25-30% of the time and they
keep giving you the runaround about what the problem is. And they make you waste several precious vacation days for technicians that never show. And when you call to complain they promise that someone will be out the very next day at 9:00 a.m. sharp. And when that person never shows and you call again they tell you that they NEVER promised you any such thing. And when the technician finally shows, he tells you that the box going into the building doesn't have enough capacity to support all the units in the building so he'll put a work order in to have the box upgraded but in the meantime he'll put you in the first slot. So your service works well for a few weeks until one of your neighbors calls Comcast to complain and gets the same treatment.

Yes, all this has happened to me multiple times in the last 8 years. And they never seem to have any record of a work order to have the box upgraded and won't authorize such a work order until a technician comes out to examine the problem. Which leaves me having to waste more time waiting for technicians that never show and so on, and so on...

$10 a month is absurd for that kind of service.

45. I have the triple play package
And have been very happy with my service. I called about my internet/cable being funky/slow, and they sent out a technician in a very short time (<2 hrs), and he found that the line from the street was bad. By the end of the day, a cherry picker truck had come by and the street to house line was replaced.

They have been very good about answering any questions that I have and have been very helpful, up to and including sending out technicians on short notice.

Perhaps the Pittsburgh area has really good service technicians.

24. Wow, I actually LIKE Comcast
Except for the bill of course.
Maybe I've been lucky over the years, but I can recall only two times that my internet service was down due to a Comcast issue - and the speed is consistently high, no slow periods at certain times of the day, etc.
When my modem crapped out I had a new one that same afternoon. When I scheduled service for an upgrade to the Digital TV service they were there when the said they would be.

Like I said, maybe I've been lucky, but I have no complaints with Comcast.

28. I'm in the same boat...
The only problem was when their DNS servers took a shit a few years ago. I just switched the IP's for the name servers and was fine until Comcast fixed them. They are expensive, but we split the bill between a bunch of people. I pay $15 per month for cable internet and TV.

ones, but I don't think you're in the majority. Comcast in Chicago sucks chickens.

The only thing good I will say about them is that the phone representatives are very polite and will credit your account for service interruptions. But they don't reimburse me for wasted vacation days and they don't actually ever solve the problem.

44. Good or fine experiences are in the majority.
People who're upset are more likely to actually say something. Looking up reviews for my cable company, they're overwhelmingly negative. However, no one I know has ever had a problem with them. Once, my service was crapping out, they came to my house 2 days later and replaced all the cable from the basement up to the third floor and the split. People who're content usually don't have a reason to say anything.
Comcast has some issues. I worked for them (indirectly). The vast majority of calls I took were not from angry people who hated their service. But, they contract out their service calls, and the people you're talking to are in a call center and unable to contact techs in your area or really do much of anything if the problem has anything to do with wiring.

Not saying you personally don't have a reason to be upset.

25. I was so damned happy the day I called Comcast and told
them to cancel my cable tv and computer service. The guy doing the canceling told me to bring back the digital cable box. I told him we had canceled the service 3 years before. He did some checking and said oh, yeah - but you know you've been paying for it all along. I was livid. I have been doing the paperless billing and paying online for years now and never saw that I was still being charged for the stupid thing. Comcast owed me several hundred dollars, but because I didn't protest the billing "in a timely fashion", I only got $100. Scum. Every time we turned around we were getting hit with a rate increase because they had added some new sports channel that we would never watch. Now we have FiOS from Verizon. Just after they installed it, a main cable got cut and we were without cable and internet for 2 days. It was not fun (when a 4 year old wants to watch Sesame Street and can't, well, let's just say it's not pretty), but not a major problem. A week or so back I got a letter from Verizon apologizing for the incident and letting me know that they were knocking $20 off the bill starting in May to compensate me. Comcast would have jacked the bill up for my non-use of their services.

33. For me, the trasition from Time-Warner to Comcast Internet was
practically seamless, and I haven't had any problems. Other people I know in Minneapolis haven't been so lucky.

Yes, I hate the way that channels disappear, too. I've decided that if I were to go to just basic cable, the only channels I would miss would be the Weather Channel and Turner Classic Movies.

I wish we had a la carte pricing, like they do in Japan. Even with basic cable one is forced to take shopping channels.

I don't want to take their phone service, but I may have to if Vonage goes under. The prospect may be enough to drive me back to Qwest :scared:
