Jesus Christ - The Musical. Is it wrong
that my seven-year-old son loves this so much that he's learned the song and can do all the moves better than Our Lord himself?
Oh, you've all seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN1dPtEph2U

I think Henry is going to be an actor. He's damn good!

1. My seven year old can recite and perform most of the musical "Rent"
as well as the vast majority of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

See, if you lived closer we could help them put on a play that suits BOTH their interests! "Jesus Barges In On Me And My Guitar", or "Stake Me UPPPPP Tonight", or "Living In Jerusalem (At The Start of the Millenium)". Toss in a few references to unladen swallows and the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, and we'd be all set. :D

12. You mean Jesus Christ Superstar?
I love it! One song in particular: I don't know how to love him. I'm betting it says a some very true things about Mary M.

13. I don't mean Jesus Christ Superstar
but I do know the song you're talking about. Even when I saw the film as a Christian kid I thought there was a good chance Mary had more than... filial... love for Jesus.

18. I think you have confused your Marys.
Mary Magdalene was not the mother of Jesus, Mary of Nazareth was.

I agree with you that Mary Magdalene loved Jesus, but it wasn't the love of a mother for her child.

20. Well
true enough, if the story is accurate, you have the characters correct.

Mary Magdalene also was not a whore as the story went for centuries (started by a Pope quite a long time ago corrected by the Catholic Church the last century) which is interesting.

Mary Magdalene actually had wealth and probably financed the apostles as they traveled about. Behind every good man is a good woman or several! I agree that I think Mary M was in love with Jesus, and we'll leave the rest to the imagination eh? ;)

26. Laughing. Raised as a Catholic it's unlikely I'd confuse the Marys.
How would you characterize the Magdalene's love for Jesus? How would you characterize the love of the average "christian"? In my world we're all looking for Daddy.

I express myself badly and I apologize. I do in fact understand your point.

34. Daddy, daddy, dadddddddy!
I'm looking for Mommy!

I find the idea of gawdess more realistic and consistent with my beliefs about the "nature" of a spiritual world.

d00d in long robe with beard and lightning bolts and all just doesn't do it.

then there's this:

36. Just checking.
I was confused by your post because it was a reply to another post that mentioned the song " I don't know how to love him". That song isn't even close to being about filial love.

I could be wrong but I think she loved him as you would a partner and lover. I think she was extremely infatuated with him yet didn't feel worthy of him.

I'm not looking for Daddy so I'm not sure how to answer that question.

37. I had to reread the thread to figure out what you're saying.
I know the song isn't about filial love and as I said that even as a kid I guessed there was more to the relationship than Father/Daughter love. By Father I mean God the Father: and by Daughter, any human woman. By more, I mean the love was what you describe, the romantic love of woman for her man. We're in complete agreement!
