Walt Disney World has opened its wedding chapel to gay couples, responding to concerns raised by at least one gay visitor.

The company announced out of California that same-sex couple "commitment" ceremonies will be allowed at the Disney Wedding Chapel and other locations at Walt Disney World and at Disneyland in California. Disney previously allowed for private ceremonies in rented meeting rooms.

The revised policy, spokesman Jacob DiPietre said, is "to be consistent with our policy of creating a welcoming and respectful environment for all of our guests."

3. Not inside the park, no.
But I caught a glimpse of one in the garden of one of the resorts. Looked like a beautiful ceremony.

7. Actually you can get married in the park

I mean, not in the main corridor where regular visiters go traipsing around but there are several places within Disney where you can setup a wedding. It'll cost you though

4. I saw a story once about it on one of those news channel programs
Getting married in Disneyland is a pretty major event that'll cost you a pretty penny but they'll do it up like a fairy tale complete with all the Disney trimmings

Lots of fun. Me and the wife just ran off to Orlando and eloped.

I had no idea they didnt do gay weddings, I just assumed they would. When I set up the arrangements, the person I worked with even said "and what is your partner's name?" rather than "bride" or "wife".

10. I think they already have.
Back in the late 90's, when Disney started offering benefits to employees with "domestic partners."

This will just make their heads spin. :D

12. Yup, I remember that one.
At the time I was working with someone who made the mistake of airing his opinion on gays and the boycott at work.

My response - "So, you're going to boycott a company because they refuse to discriminate the way you want them to?"
