12. It sure has been, my friend, LOL!
I never thought I'd even reach 100, but I just hit 15,000 yesterday.:wow: It's the first few thousand that are the hardest...

And I can tell you how I make this work, but I think that I have to post this in plain text... It's very easy to do, just tough to post.:eyes: Someone else once asked me how I did this, early on, and I was so eager to explain that I PM'd him with exactly what I did. The thing that I didn't realize was that typing this in the PM also made that become a moving message... And that the poor guy was on serious pain meds for a bad toothache and had gone to bed early. He woke up at about 4am and read my PM and thought that either he was hallucinating, or that I was messing with his head... We finally got this straightened out, but you can see the problem...:evilfrown:

Anyway, lets see if this works!

you just type in [marquee] before the message that you want to
move and [/marquee] at the end. That's all there is to it. You
can use the smilies, words, or both...:-)

26. Exactly like that! Very good! Isn't that fun?! LOL.
And that is very weird, but that must have been what happened with that PM. You were able to read my post because I posted it in plain text, which you have to do when posting code, but when you went to reply, I guess DU didn't recognize this... Someone asked me about this, another time, and I had to ask my friend, who writes things for computers for a living (you can tell that I'm technologically impaired, LOL) and he had to experiment with this to tell me how to write this in a PM. Posting this was much easier...:D

Enjoy! I'll bet that you remember this Milestone...;) And congrats again!:hi:

53. She had great grace in her posting. as a mod and as a general DUer.
I sometimes felt like she took me by the hand and introduced me to some of the aspects of DU. She also brought me to an Ask the Admin conversation per civility at DU. From that several folks including Keph (not sure about Maeve) asked me to serve as a mod - which was flattering. But my time is so very sporadic and limited that I could never commit what is required to the task.

Funny thing -that (the requests - all came at once - long before the 04 primaries) I recently was told a compliment by another DUer that he had been PMed by another (the thread was about PMing) that I was a DU diplomat... I never thought of myself that way. But if I am - I would say that Maeve and a couple of other early DUers including OrangePeel and Jitterbug Perfume were my role models. Perhaps without knowing it I have served to "pay it forward" as well.

While I recognized I was about to cross this milepost for a couple of months (this week is off as I have some time off work to post - but often I read but have little posting time so the numbers now climb very slowly) - I didn't imagine what a nice trip down memory lane, with folks that I have always so enjoyed, that this thread and milepost would allow for. It is really a pleasure. Thank you for this conversation. Has added tremendously to the warm DU walk down memory lane.

Heck I even found out who posted the FBI post that originally brought me to DU (it was Archae! disclosed on another thread.)

Congrats to you, as well. You crossed a big one today as well. I really can't recall many of the interim "mileposts" though I recall for one (don't know which) NSMA gave a killer thread with funny graphics (hitting on my "midwestern sensibilities" theme) - I remember the first (Uly gave me my 1000) and I know I will remember this one - Because of our exchanges on this thread. Thank you for that. I hope that it stays with you as well. A joint celebration. :toast:

13. Wow - that was good to re-read. Sad that we eventually "lost"
though it took them years to get that awful legislation through. We used to have some very great collaborative dig/learn threads. I miss those. We all started out as neophytes on the issue and suddenly became somewhat well versed (probably more versed than some of the legislators charged to vote on the bills).

Heh - ya from time to time NSMA and I needed a wee bit of diplomatic intervention. Thankfully that was pretty rare.

Always a pleasure to see you! Thanks for the morning big smile! :loveya: :bounce:

43. U gave me my first congrats milepost thread...
I was thrilled as back then it felt like noone responded or recognized me as a DUer (I can only imagine how long it must feel that way these days with the forum being 100,000 rather than under 10,000). Then I saw you were a mod and concluded it must be part of the job (as in an obligatory milepost) - gee I was insecure as a poster. I still thank you for that congrats thread - I think it was the first time I felt I belonged.

Today - as back then - you are among the better of us, and we are a better community for your being part of us.

55. I hope that you know that you have a special place in my heart
Warning: going from light hearted to serious in a flash in this post.

I know I have told you this before - but there are some threads that grow in LBN and GD that can hit raw nerves for me - and the responses are better today than they were a few years ago - but there are always a few voices that are firm and steady, and from the other gender - and thus feeling (to this reader) like "solidarity" voices that take up the points when some of us are too weary to keep raising them.

For quite some time, I have read your posts just when I hit an emotional point of fatigue (mostly because often when I am reading I am already exhausted from 10-12 hour work days) - and I am brought to near tears.... as something I might want to have said - but either wasn't present to say, or didn't have the energy at the moment to engage... was said by you. I can't tell you how meaningful and helpful that has been and that while others may chime in from time to time, I recognize that yours is a voice that is steady, consistent and present.

On most issues I tend to be policy wonky (both my nature and my academic training.) Getting emotional generally isn't my posting MO. But when the issues related to rape occur - on different levels I respond. Too many years have gone by for it to define me - but some of the tones of the discussion can still affect me - in the sense that some attitudes strike me as those that allow/enable behavior which leads to the perpetuation of such violence. And sometimes - it gets exhausting and discouraging. And then there appears a "solidarity" ThomCat post. :loveya:

Just had to say this. I am not a big PMer. I am not a big talk off-line-er. And while I have found some long-going conversations with some DUers that I have long appreciated ... my style of standoffishness (keeping DU at DU and life at life) leaves me sometimes not really knowing if I have let a person know how much I appreciate them, seriously appreciate him/her. ThomCat, you have a special place in this DUers heart. I don't know you - but I do know that you are a deeply empathetic person who will take on other peoples' battles - and you do so in a full of grace and respect way, Thank You. I would bet that I speak for many in telling you this.

59. Please know (and I hope Nini doesn't mind)... that....
I reserve the beanbag, steel and other chairs just for you. There is noone else at DU that gets salin's special seating arrangements. :D :loveya:

Doubt you remember - but we were briefly 700 club-ers together - way back when....

LOL. 2002!

JackRabbit and I raced each other to get out of the 700 Club, lol. We entered it the same night and I believe he won. Neither of us lasted 24 hours. :loveya:

60. how many times have you indulged me... when I just wanted
the quick wit distraction of a free association thread! And how many times have I appreciated your 'cut to the chase' style in posting. Thanks bridgit -may we have many more threads to share in the future!
