Does it seem like there have been zillions more horror movies of late?
The last time I remember such a flood of horror films was in the 80's, and I think prolonged Repug 'administrations' make people flip out. I really don't have anything against horror movies - I don't watch them, but whatever - but I think people make them just to convince themselves that life could be worse than a prolonged Repug siege. Sort of like, "yeah, so the economy sucks and the president is an idiot and he's killing thousands of people, but at least it's not here. We COULD be stuck with some psycho who decides to harvest my organs in the most painful way possible while I'm on vacation". Just my humble opinion.

Am I wrong? Were there a ton of horror films in the 90s and I just didn't notice?

2. why do you think there are so many more these days?
I've been noticing it for a while -- huge sections of our little neighborhood movie rental place are now full of hideous-looking, painful movies. It wasn't like that even 2 years ago, though the deluge was starting.

Why?

republican administrations/policies and the need for the entertainment industry to feed the publics blood lust, even though there is real war and death going on all around us. It also seems the 90's didn't have so many over the top horror films

on edit: I also think there is a need for externalization of our own internal monsters that people need to do to deal with the horror of the real world in these times.
