Man wants to stop alimony pay after ex-wife's sex change
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Lawrence Roach agreed to pay alimony to the woman he divorced, not the man she became after a sex change, his lawyers argued in an effort to end the payments.

But the ex-wife's attorneys argued Tuesday that the operation doesn't alter the agreement.

Roach and his wife, Julia, divorced in 2004 after 18 years of marriage. The 48-year-old utility worker agreed to pay her $1,250 a month in alimony. Since then, Julia Roach, 55, had a sex change and legally changed her name to Julio Roberto Silverwolf.

"It's illegal for a man to marry a man and it should likewise be illegal for a man to pay alimony to a man," said John McGuire, one of Roach's attorneys. "When she changed to man, I believe she terminated that alimony."

The case is the second transsexual rights showdown in Pinellas County in less than a week. On Friday, city commissioners voted 5-2 to fire Largo's city manager, Steve Stanton, after he announced he was a transsexual.

1. Sorry guy
The original contract holds up regardless of what gender the ex changed to. His lawyer should know that and probably does.

2. Julio Roberto Silverwolf...I don't mean to be insensitive, but that name...
sounds like a clash of ethnicities.

Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 09:30 AM by BlueIris
assessments I made about this guy in the LBN and GD postings about this "case." But I guess there really isn't one.

Piece of shit.

8. Yet one more reason not to get married
I think the guy owes his ex, but I do have to say that I think a sex change operation would cost quite of a bit of money and it makes me wonder about the whole alimony thing.

I have a friend who was married to a woman who already had a child. They got divorced and she was granted alimony and child support. Not long after, she took off to Cal. leaving both of their children *and* her son from her first marriage. He still had to pay the alimony and child support. He went to court over it and they basically told him "tough shit".

He raised his two children and her son and payed her the whole time.

10. Cuyahoga county here in Cleveland
He still has the kids, the woman's kid is 21 or 22 now. He lives with my buddy but works and all. The woman is back in town, but doesn't pitch in much. Their daughter is going to college, which he is paying for. It was messed up.
