1. My kids are in training.
It's a monumental task, though. They're all old enough...the youngest is ten...so they're all expected to pitch in. Dishes are taken in turns, each one getting a week at a time. Since there are four kids still at home, it works out to about one week a month and, when they try and whine about it during their week, I don't hesitate to remind them of that.

They usually shut up.

Usually.

The way it works is, everyone is responsible for his or her own room and putting away their laundry. #2 and #3 son do their own. Whoever has dishes this week has to take out the trash next week and does litter box duty the week after. The following week they have off. Then we rotate from there. The last person to go to bed at night is expected to make sure all the lights and the tee vee is off and the front room is presentable. No excuses, no complaints or they WON'T be the last one up for a week.

And I check when I get home from work every night.

#2 son is learning to cook...he did dinner tonight while I got ready for work and then fed his brothers and his sister. #3 son has started the process, but he's not ready to solo yet. Girly-poo has little or no interest in cooking, although she's going to have to learn soon whether she wants to or not.

Otherwise, I fear for her nutritional well-being when she's on her own.

:scared:

All in all, they're in training. I'm telling you though -- it was easier when I just did all of it.

WAAAAAY easier.

4. I hear ya!
Even the husband! That isn't really fair - but sorta true.

They ALL do their own clothes, I do extras like towels and bedding, and everybody is good about sharing the washer when they are doing a load (checking to see if anybody needs something done to make a full load)

Kids rotate emptying dishwasher - oldest fills and runs it pretty often when he is home, middle occasionally.

Boys do a lot of feeding/animal type chores, firewood, errands, burn paper trash. Girl is responsible for crushing aluminum cans when the bin gets full, bathroom trash, her room. I just don't look in the boys room/bathroom any more :scared:

Husband does about 1/2 the cooking, "cleans" the kitchen, loads and runs the dishwasher about 1/3 to 1/2 the time. He also does the MORNINGS. He gets the school kids up, feeds 'em and usually hauls them to the bus or all the way to town if he is going that way. (YAY!)

I do the "public rooms" and any deep cleaning that gets done (not very often!) about 1/2 the cooking, the detailed animal stuff, alllll the paperwork, phone calling and that sort of crap. I do some of the vehicle maintanence, fence work, a lot of the handy-man house repair sort of stuff and probably most of the yard/garden work. Kids do some raking or moving dirt - that sort of heavier labor (I am severy alergic to shovels), husband does some too and some of the watering. I do most of the major shopping - anybody going to town usually gets stuck running a few errands and that usually includes a stop at the grocery store for something or other.

I think the kids in my house need to stard doing more cooking!

5. I'm alone, so it's all me.
When I had a SO we split the chores about 75/25. I did the 75% because I was here more than he was.

6. right now I do most, but only because of the work schedules these days
he works 65+ I work 25

when the tables were turned and he worked at home 40 hours and I was working 50++ he did everything except cook (including the shopping from my list)

when we both are working 'normal' hours, we do it together usually but right now I carry the load and don't mind a bit

9. I do the
laundry, dishes, cooking, etc. Husband takes out the trash and cleans out the litter box. He also does the outside stuff like mowing. When it's winter, he helps with the inside stuff. If I haven't been feeling well he will do the dishes before he goes to work since he goes in later than I do.

We really don't make a big deal out of it.

10. A total 50/50 split.
If one cooks, the other does dishes. If one is cleaning, the other 'entertains' baby (which is totally a chore at this point!). Laundry is done together, as is all shopping. 50/50 is the only way to go.

11. It's even-ish between my SO and me, depending on what's going on.
I definitely do much more cooking (I enjoy it), but beyond that things are pretty well split...we don't have designated chores (except the cat litter is his problem) but everything gets done eventually.

Kiddo's 4 and she's been learning to dry dishes and make her bed. Other than that, picking up toys and clothes, and occasionally playing laundry baseball (throwing the wet clothes into the dryer) is where she's at right now.

12. it's fairly even with us, although in a flexible way often
yes, sometimes one or both of us feel frustrated that we're the "only one who does ____" but generally we share the work. Lately, I have been doing a lot of rehab work on the house, so she has done more deep cleaning, we both cook and clean/pick-up. She's much more responsible than I am as far as paying bills, so is in charge of that, although a lot of it is automated now. I do the mowing, trash, and since I get up first, the animals food and such. generally speaking it works out pretty well.

13. Honestly, my SO does most of it
During the week, I cook and do dishes because I get home earlier but he does almost all of the cleaning. He does most of the laundry, cleans the bathroom, cleans the frig when it needs it, does all the cooking on weekends or when he gets home early, does the grocery shopping - I pitch in now and again but I freely admit he does the bulk of it.

Oh, I make ice cubes when we need them.

16. He came that way
I snared him in the produce department in the grocery store where I work. It was obvious from the items in his cart that he cooked. So I shamelessly picked him up and we've been together for 6 years. I'm spoiled rotten and he is a domestic goddess - or god. Whatever. His dream is that I someday run for office - governor or something - and he can redecorate and entertain.

Anyway, it works great! Oh, and he's very fine to look at, too. ;)

17. I cook, husband washes the dishes....
Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 12:17 PM by Blue_In_AK
We do other cleaning things about equally. I'm self-employed at home, so he has more time for doing "projects." He does most of the grocery shopping, which I really appreciate, because I hate shopping in any form. We each do our own laundry.
