People who hate American Idol check in! (A Rant!)
I hate American Idol. I know I will tick off a lot of people for saying it but I don't care anymore. Of all of the dumbing down Americans are receiving, this takes the cake. It gets worse every year as well! The same goes with Reality TV too which American Idol IS a part of. You can say the same thing about "Dancing With The Stars" and "Survivor" too. "The Real World" on MTV? Why the hell is that show still on? It started to suck during the year they were in Seattle. I admit though I used to watch it when they had a diverse mix of real people (San Francisco was the best of the series!) and not the Abercrombie and Fitch models they have on it now. Just like the rest of MTV, it should have died a death long ago. Getting back to American Idol, doesn't everybody realize it's all one big sham? And it drives me nuts whenever the so-called news media in this country treats it like it's hard-hitting news. ARGH!!!! :grr:

I just want these shows to just freaking go away! Especially "American Idol"! It's all a joke!

1. It should never be treated as news.
That does make it very obvious that the news networks are about selling us a product.

I saw some talk show or news show (I forget where) that people are worked up about this guy who is doing well even though he can't sing. HELLO! They're all unoriginal no talent hacks! Just because you're a white girl who does a good imitation of Christina Agulera imitating Aretha Franklin doesn't mean you can sing. And it doesn't mean you belong on the radio. Its star search with hype.

9. IMO, there's one girl on the show who's too talented to be there
(Her name's Melinda, BTW). Of course, the media would much rather focus on that Sanjaya kid's latest hairstyle (he's the hack who can't sing yet somehow warrants almost all the coverage.)

2. Actually, I can think of much worse examples of dumbing down....
Revising and rewriting classic literature to make them either worthy of 21st century sensibilities or to make them "easier" to understand is absolutely shameful and disgusting and should be outlawed.

American Idol? Pretty tame in comparison.

3. Any show that lets you vote multiple times on the phone,
is pretty much a joke!

Sanjaya has a fair amount of entertainment value, though! But only for about 10 seconds!

I am proud to say I've never watched the show, and the news I follow would never mention something like that.. unless one of them was horribly killed on-set maybe :)
Do I sound snooty? hey sorry :hi: almost everything on tv now makes me ashamed just to see it

Compared to The Real World, where they complain about living in a giant house for free.

6. "American Idol" was a very fun show in 2003. Since then, however,
it has declined dramatically in quality and become much more crass - yet at the same time it has grown in popularity. The second season, in the spring of 2003 (the season with Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Kimberly Locke, etc.) had a festive, freewheeling, "live" atmosphere to it, which has never been recaptured in any of the succeeding seasons. They keep showing reruns of the first season of American Idol (a show called American Idol Rewind) but that's a mistake - they should be showing the second season again - the one that really established the show. I would go so far as to say that "American Idol" was the best thing that was on television in the spring of 2003. However, the show is just rolling along on inertia now, has taken on a stale atmosphere, and they'll still keep doing it as long as people still watch it, no matter what the quality or entertainment value.

8. I don't hate the show, but I hate the coverage of it
I don't normally watch the 10:00pm news on my local Fox channel, but one time I caught it, and I swear they care more about Idol than any actual news (of course it's Fox, and when have they ever cared about actual news?)

I say report the news, because I would guess that any real fans of the show would much rather get their information and talk about the program on the Internet, and leave TV coverage of the show to one those tacky entertainment programs (Entertainment Tonight, Extra, etc.)

I must confess that there was a time when I did watch "The Real World" on MTV but I stopped watching it when they got to the Seattle season. That was the show that started it all but now Reality TV is so old. I just want it to just fade away.

17. Here is what makes it bad for me
The only show I tape for myself is House M.D. For a while, Fox was only only broadcasting a new House episode about once every 3 weeks, so American Idol could run for two hours, and on multiple nights. I don't care about Ryan Seacrest, the judges, or the pathetic contestants, yet I can't seem to avoid it, because AI gets coverage on other shows.

I also don't care who wins Survivor or any other reality show, but the others at least seem easier to avoid (for me).

19. Being a big fan of House M.D. it annoys me a lot.
I cannot stand the fact that Fox has to bump House off all of the time. House M.D. is one of the best shows to come out in years and they have to screw with it's schedule every damn time! That's another thing that bothers me about American Idol.

you are entitled to not like it.

However, I do hope that I could get you to realize that not all entertainment has to stimulate the intellect. Some things should just be entertaining. Fluff has it's place in the world.

23. I have never seen it
The thing that truly pisses me off about that damn show is that they have after shows to follow up on it. Do they do that for actual important stuff like the firing of US Attorneys for political reasons? No, just a one minute mention of it on the nightly "news" before they begin what's going on on Survivor tonight.

I fucking hate "reality" TV.

24. My American Idol plan. (NOT SERIOUS!!!!)
When I'm dictator of America, I intend to build a prison...not here, in some other country...say, Cuba? Then I'm going to send every auditioner for American Idol there and everybody who looks like Carrie Underwood or has seen "From Justin to Kelly" or read Fantasia Barrino's book. Clearly, they hate America and our way of life. That makes them terry-wrists because they want to destroy us. That's why they can't have rights or trials. We're going have them appear before this three-person board made up of Timbaland, Courtney Love, and the asshat who threw his coffee and pocket change at me last week and called me a "re-turd"...don't worry, these tribunals aren't going to have any real power. Instead, America, you get to choose who gets to go home every week by voting through a phone-in system where you can vote as many times as you'd like (a $0.95 per call surcharge applies) for who isn't a terry-wrist. See, that's democracy.

I'll take input from other people here, but we're going to do it my way. See...I'm the decider. If I listened to you, I wouldn't be the decider. You're all trying to make me think I have to listen to you, but I don't. The Flying Spaghetti Monster told me so. He said you're trying to fool me. Fool me once, shame on, shame on you. Fool me, you can't get fooled again.

34. I find it has always been good for an extremely nice belly laugh, especially during
the finals.

You can't write satire this good, and I'm not talking about the mean-spirited production decisions they make about cutting good singers from the early auditions to get to the people 75% of the audience really tune in to see, and those are the W. Hung contestants that are either there poking fun at the show with their bad singing or are sadly delusional.

It's no mistake the only contestant worth a small pile of Pooh didn't win the show but won an Oscar (or the other woman who was booted for the show for being too good, or was it because she posed topless? Nope, it couldn't be that because look at what's-her-crust from this year). Then again I'll take 3/4 of the women in the gospel choir down the street from my old condo in Jersey over Jennifer Hudson (is this her name?) any day. I'm sure they would let her join in, but she'd have to pay her dues just like the rest of 'em.

The angst over the show from my end comes from knowing too many "starving artists" whose existence and profession is denigrated by this shit. I'll take sloppy drunk guitar player anyday over a simulacrum trying to "bring sexy back" as if he had the right to pretend it had ever left.

It's just a stupid teevee show. There are more important things to get bent out of shape over.

Write the news media if you don't want it shown as news...I have. I watch it when there is someone I want to see which means I've barely watched it this season but I have in the past and enjoyed it.
I hardly watch any tv unless it's news....to each his own.
