it truly is like a breath of fresh air
man, it's not too hot, the air quality is somewhat decent, prevailing winds from any other direction than the gulf of mexico.

i need to bop a little northwest from here into the hill country for a couple of days.

i just love spring time.

1. The leaves aren't out yet...
that's when spring really hits home for me. When everything is that really bright, new shade of green and it's not too hot yet and anything's possible.

That, and Opening Day.

:P

2. it will soon be unbearably hot here
but this winter season was quite unseasonable (for texas) it cooled off early (first traces in mid-september).

i think i'm gonna catch out of here pretty soon and wander the country for a minute. spring always brings out the gypsy in me.

3. #2 son wants to live in Texas
Damned if I can figure out why. It's HUMID down there. We went on vacation once and breathing was like sucking warm water.

5. you can find practically most geographical features and ecosystems here
except for tundra.

temerate savanahs, prairies, old growth forests, hills, mountains, tropical climates, dry climates, what have you.

but yes, the humidity is stifling, especially in the region where i live which is situated right on top of the gulf of mexico.

still, texas gets a lot of shit, but i do have a fondness for the diversity of climatological features here.

13. Isn't Austin less humid, though?
That's the one place in Texas I've always wanted to visit.

14. it can be
when i was attending UT Austin, i thought it was much less humid than houston.

but then, you get a good surge of gulf air and it can fuck shit up all the way to milwaukee (in the summer at least).

however, in winter, we'd get ice storms in austin when houston would just have rain, so it's a mixed bag.

i lived in austin in the early 90s, when rent was cheap and it still had a "small town in a big town" flavor to it. the last time i was there it seemed more like "houston-lite" especially with all the freeway construction projects and residential construction going west out on 290 or 71 (very picturesque and beautiful at one time, still is the farther you get from austin).

still, it probably is the nicest place to live in texas if you're more comfortable with amenities the average educated person is accustomed to.

11. Not at all!
It was really warm - in fact, it was in the 60's a week before Christmas.

But all the cold that we DID get came in the last 2 months. So we are REALLY ready for it to be over!
