9. Queen for a Day!
My sister and I watched that every afternoon and cried.
Remember The Big Payoff? Opened with Bess Myerson with her back to the camera, and she's wearing a mink coat.

And Phil Silvers! My father loved to imitate him, always saying, "Gladdaseeya!"

reruns of What's My Line? on Sunday nights. What a show that was. Dorothy Kilgallen and Arlene Francis all decked out in evening gowns. Bennett Cerf, John Daly, and a rotating panel member like Tony Randall in tuxedos. Female contestants with unusual (for the time) occupations like judge or private investigator. Rhinestone studded blindfolds in place when the "Mystery guest," usually someone appearing on Broadway, came out, who was then quickly identified by the panel. Everyone unfailingly polite and well mannered.

For a game show, it was unbelivably polished.

8. Fabian of Scotland Yard was a British import based on a real person.
Life With Elizabeth starred Betty White.
I was VERY young when Dr. Hudson's Secret Journal came on. I only remember the opening, which was hands pulling a book off a shelf, and the book was Dr. Hudson's Journal. I think it was based on a book or books by either Graham Green or A.J. Cronin.

10. OMG, Winky Dink!
You had to have the clear plastic film to stick to your TV screen so you could draw on it and take part in the story! Isn't there some show on Nickelodeon that is similar to that?
(My mom wouldn't get us the Winky Dink screen, so we had to steal some Saran Wrap and improvise!)
