You went up against a great champion who happened to get all three Daily Doubles. He was lucky. Had you got them, Craig might not have won. And you had the best Coryat score of the game.

$2,000 is still nothing to sneeze at, eh? Pretty good 2nd place prize -- a lot better than a year's supply of Turtle Wax or Mrs Butterworth's.

Question: how long did they take to send you your money? In the agreement it says it's a maximum of 120 days from airdate, but did they drag it out to the full four months?

But still pretty nice. It was the experience of a lifetime.

And yeah, it took 'em the full four months to send the check...

It will air on Friday June 22nd! They do tape these quite a bit in advance. They taped 5 episodes the day I was there to watch my sister. When was yours taped?

That includes information like her name or how much she may have won. Contestants have to sign a non-disclosure agreement. The only reason I'm mentioning my appearance now is that it's been announced at the JEOPARDY! website.

I'm sure you had a great time in the guest section. It's very exciting to be there. Retroactive good luck to your sis.

I played the final game on the last day of taping in 2006, before they went on Xmas break. So you see the time lag; it's pretty consistent.

46. There was an online contestant search, consisting of a 50-question exam.

That was last spring. They contacted me with an invitation to audition in June. That was another 50-question test, followed by a mock game with the buzzers, during which they asked us to talk about ourselves a bit. They're looking for people who won't freeze up on camera and who can have a bit of spark, but it's not just that, or it might as well be Deal or No Deal -- you have to know stuff, too, so you can make it a good game. People who watch JEOPARDY! aren't watching the show to see hard bodies and model types. They like trivia.

Anyway, after the audition, they told us that we could get the call to go down to Los Angeles any time between then and the end of 2007. I happened to get the call in October, to tape in mid-December.

Which Ten Commandments do you mean? According to this book I'm reading, 50 Things You're Not Supposed to Know About by Russ Kick, the ten that Moses brought down from the mountain aren't quite the same ones that fundy Christian legislators want to have posted in courthouses, classrooms, and other public places.

"Simply reading the Bible will prove this" writes Kick. "Getting out your King James version, turn to Exodus 20:2-17. You'll see the familiar list of rules about having no other gods, honoring your parents, not killing or coveting, and so on. At this point, though, Moses is just repeating to the people what God told him on Mount Si'nai. These are not written down in any form.

"Later, Moses goes back to the Mount, where God gives him two 'tables of stone' with rules written on them (Ex. 31:18). But when Moses comes down down the mountain lugging his load, he sees the people worshipping a statue of a calf, causing him to throw a tantrum and smash the tablets on the ground (Ex. 32:19).

"In neither of these cases does the Bible refer to 'commandments'. In the first instance, they are 'words' which 'God spake', while the tablets contain 'testimony'.
