"I'm So Excite!" I watched "Borat" on DVD this weekend
Quite possibly one of the funniest movies i have ever watched, and I am 47 years old!

It just came out on DVD and if you have yet to see "Borat, Cultural Learnings of America for make benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" ....well......you must.

How Sascha Baron Cohen made it across The US without getting killed is remarkable in itself, considering what he did and the situations in which he presented himself and his "Producer"

Many of you are familiar with this film but for those who have yet to see it and aren't sure whether you should, think of a mixture between Andy Kaufmann as "Latka Gravis" meets Monty Python and the Search for ignorance of the world at large in America.

The man actually got Congressman Bob Barr to eat cheese with him during an interview and after Mr Barr had taken a bite, Mr Cohen as Borat Sagdiyev tells the Congressman that the cheese was made by his wife.....from her breast milk!

The expression on Barr's face alone is worth the price of the rental.

Never breaking character, whether it is with the Secret Service in DC (seen in the Outtakes) or with a prim and proper "Dinner club" in Alabama, Borat takes the prejudices we all have as Americans right to the edge.

Rent this DVD, It is too funny to pass up!

1. I found it offensive
unless you think everyone whose country ends with 'Istan' is a drunk or a whore.

I found none of the excuses that were made for this film to be true - it lived up to and exceeded my worst expectations.

I feel bad that people live in poverty, but to then degrade and humiliate them is not funny.

4. I thought it was funny.
you would be hardpressed to find any comedy that didn't offend someone if you take it too seriously.

10. It's called "Tongue in Cheek" or even "Satire"
If you found it offensive then i think perhaps you missed the point. But, as in the words of Borat;

Thankyouverymuch, You will teach me how to be like you? I like.

Now i go make sexy time with my sheeps.

12. If anything,
the movie makes fun of Americans more than makes fun of people living in the former Soviet block.

Although dispicable things like bride kidnapping really do happen.

Anyhow Borat is a hilarious movie!!

3. Excellent Movie
Cohen has a lot of guts! I've been watching him on HBO for a few years now. His concept for movie making is very innovative and I think will be a model for future film makers. (Film in the digital sense.)

I loved his movie and the DVD is on my birthday list. The rodeo scenes are genius!

11. Probably the funniest movie made in the last 15 years.
I say that with complete sincerity.

My favorite part is the yard sale where he tries to get gypsy tears.

I had to stop the disc....honestly.

There were so many times that i was laughing so hard i had to hit pause.

So much of his character flew so high over so many heads, it is hard to imagine such heights.

"Why do you camp here in front of this house, Gypsy?"

13. It took lots of shots, and most of them hit their mark -
our favorite part was the meeting with the Etiquette woman, and the shots of the resulting dinner (something like "in my country, you two would be very attractive. with you (pointing at a third), not so much"). Also the TV episode with the three feminists...and the appearance on the morning show...in parts of it we laughted till we cried!

20. If i got it right, it was the same TV station that reported the next day on his Rodeo appearance....
Now it is hard to remember, it was probably in the "Special Features" section on the DVD. The same station where he did that interview for the morning show reported the next day how unhappy the rodeo audience was with his rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" - which was, of course, NOT the SSB but the (alleged) Kazakh National anthem sung to the TUNE of the SSB.

Americans are so fucking gullible it isnt funny.

Which makes this movie all the more hilarious.

15. There were some laugh out loud funny parts
but all in all, I was disappointed....it got kind of annoying after awhile.
It was kind of too stupid silly for me even though I usually enjoy and am never offended by those movies.

Nothing offended me in the movie....I just didn't think it was the funniest thing I have ever seen.

17. I found it generally unfunny
Cohen can be funny in the same way that SNL can be funny. But, just as the SNL movies are horrible for anything longer than ten minutes, so was Borat: a tedious and generally unfunny shtick becomes extremely tedious and unfunny after 84 minutes.

21. I thought some of the same things
There were indeed some very funny moments, imo, like a few of the scenes but overall I got annoyed by the character and the movie....it just didn't hold my attention or my humor for as long as I thought it would.

24. The only part I found genuinely funny was the book signing with Pam Anderson
Edited on Mon Mar-12-07 09:39 PM by DinoBoy
But what's ironic about that is that Anderson had to have been in on the joke or her security would never have allowed that to happen. The only truly scripted moment ended up being the only genuinely funny one..... Hmm....

26. I don't buy all this unscripted shit
The Frat boys seemed fake as did some of the 'dancers' in that wackjob church....I know some of those people are nuts and do act like that but I wouldn't be surprised if they hired some of those people to dance like that. Plus, the dinner party went on way to long...I would've walked out of that party way sooner if some nut bag like that was at my party.

People seemed like they were too patient at times.

27. Those fratboys in the motorhome sued Cohen
because he filmed them being drunk racists. That part: apparently not staged.

31. I guess not.
Regardless, it just seemed like everything was way over the top and to me, some people's reactions didn't seem genuine, which made me believe it was staged.

The movie kind of reminded me of that show on MTV, Boiling Points, except on that show it did seem like it was legit.

I don't know. Borat had some funny parts but for me, it didn't live up to the hype and I normally enjoy movies with that type of humor.

25. I thought some of the sections were indeed a bit tedious....
but then i started to wonder how many were staged and how many were totally unstaged. Watching an individuals reaction to a completely off the wall situation can take the observer to a sometimes uncomfortable place,

Mr. Baron Cohen reminds me very much of Andy Kaufman. If you didnt "get" Andy ...... you didnt get Andy.
