OK, why won't iTunes open?

OK, why won't iTunes open?
I came home, plugged my iPod into the laptop, expecting iTunes to start automatically, as it was set to do. Nothing.

I clicked iTunes from the start menu. Nothing

I clicked the icon on my desktop. Nothing.

I went to a"All Programs" to iTunes and tried that. Nothing.

I right clicked and "Open" on the desktop icon. Nothing.
