Mud Season.....Yaaaaaay!
Someone brought it up on GD and I realized that Mud Season is just days away. Glorious weeks of slipping and sliding around in slime, driving in half foot ruts, skidding as if on black ice, dogs who shake it off in the house...the first sure sign of Spring!:bounce:

2. You're way north of me aren't you?
I'm in SW NH and they say it's going to be in the 40's and 50's next week. That ought to get the mud going.

3. First, I have to see about 4 foot of packed snow melt away.
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 12:24 PM by hedgehog
It's down to about 2 foot, but it's packed solid. The deer are wandering all over; the five acres around the house looks like a little kid went wild running around on the snow. Plus, someone hit a skink last Wednesday, so the small critters are outr rooting around. We're placing bets on how long the mounds of plowed snow in parking lots will last. I'd say at least until Mid-May unless someone breaks them down.

I expect to be buying a couple bales of straw to spread around in a week or three. It's the only way to survive mud season here.

4. What do you do with the straw?
Any hints on how I can keep my dogs from sliming the house?

5. Spread the straw in a heavy layer over where people walk,
it'll keep the mud down and if you throw some grass seed underneath it'll even help the path recover. Lay several thick layers where your dogs like to lie in the sun. It'll keep them warmer and drier and also help clean the mud off them.

7. I am SERIOUSLY considering a set of MUTTLUKS for my golden

Figure he is smart enough to see the benefit immediately. Now, if I could only train Havocdad to be more consistent about taking HIS muddy boots off before coming inside. We have gravel which makes the tracked in mud all the more damaging to the wood floors. Some years, I threaten to stop mopping and just scatter seeds on the floor!

9. Did you click link on that page for 'Muttimonials'?
and another link about the Search & Rescue dogs after 9-11
http://www.muttluks.com/muttimonials/nyc.php

The fact that the folks who make those dog boots got a bunch out ASAP to those dogs REALLY got me in their corner. They heard the dogs were tearing up their feet in their efforts at helping people in New York and they addressed the need. :patriot: We ALL do better working together.

6. Pulling a half pound of the planet from each of your dog's paws
seventeen times a day when they need to come in and check on what you are up to in the house. ;)
