Paris Hilton thrown out of grocery store for ramming cart into senior citizen!

Wednesday March 7 2007 14:35 IST

WASHINGTON: Hotel heiress Paris Hilton was reportedly ordered to
leave a grocery store by the shop’s manager, after a feud with an
aged lady customer.

It seems that Hilton asked the customer to stop blocking the aisle,
but the woman did not hear her.

The irritated ‘Simple Life’ star then rammed her cart into the
woman’s, and yelled that she was being rude and jamming her way.

“That's what you get for being rude and blocking the aisle,”
Hollywoodrag quoted Hilton, as telling the woman.

The shocked lady replied that she was being impolite by slamming
her cart into her. “You're the one who's rude, slamming me with
your cart,” the lady said.

The manager of the star intervenes and asked Hilton to leave the
place, if she cannot be courteous to people.

The 26-year-old left behind the shopped grocery items and walked
out of the store in a rage.

1. I hope this wasn't a duplicate
This fluff piece is OK for the lounge, right? <g> I'm embarrassed to feel aligned with Paris Hilton about anything but I just have to to say, I kind of hate it when people stand there blocking the isle like brain dead lumps, myself.

4. Except the article said the woman did not hear her, which is quite
plausible, if she was elderly. I hate aisle blockers too, but I will say, "Excuse me, I need to get by," and will then tap them on the shoulder to get their attention if they don't respond right away.

One time, I was in a store and was walking in a rather narrow area. This high school girl was walking toward me. I moved to my right -- natural for me because I'm right handed -- and she moved the same way (maybe she was left handed). This little twit kept walking right toward me, and then said "Move"! I said, "Oh, get over yourself" which made her flounce off and the other customers laugh their asses off at her.

28. Most hate it when someone blocks an aisle, but few get physically aggressive
Ms Hilton REALLY needs to progress out of her terrible twos and grow the fuck up.

Bravo to the manager who tossed her selfish ass out.

I guess I shouldn't be encouraging Shopper Rage but man, people who just park their carts right in the middle and stay there like lumps...just bug the hell out of me. Of course, the difference between Paris and me... I wouldn't really assault an elderly woman or anyone else. I just want to...<g>

16. what's that old joke about a little old lady in hollywood trying to parallel park
her bentley -- and this young gal whips her miata in there instead --

the young lady hops out of the car and says --''that's what you can do when you're young and quick'' to the little old lady.

as she turns to walk away she hears a sickening crunch, smash, crunch -- and turns to see the little old lady backing her car into her miata repeatedly --

the little old lady says to the young lady --''and that's what you can do when you're old -- and rich.''

22. She didn't
She didn't beat up an old lady. She rammed her cart. There is a difference. ...and I think people are being rather condescending and ageist saying old ladies can do whatever they want...<g>

I HATE isle blockers. They stand there like big ol' lumps, pretending they don't know they are blocking the entire isle and acting like because they have no better place to be no one else does either.

Once again...you go Paris!

24. I hate it when people block the isles
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 12:57 PM by Pithlet
But I hate people who would ram their cart in retribution even more. There's no excuse for that kind of behavior. It's annoying when people block the isle, but I'm not going to let them get the best of me and become the kind of unhinged person who does that sort of thing. No one is perfect. Everyone has habits that annoy other people. It's a part of living among other human beings. Paris' behavior was far worse than isle blocking. The thing to do is mentally imagine in your head you're ramming the person, then suck it up and go back and around the isle. The extra exercise helps.

ETA there is nothing ageist about it. Paris is lucky she didn't knock the lady off balance and break her hip. Then she'd be looking at assault charges and a fat civil suit. Older people often can't hear as well, and are often frailer then younger people, and there's nothing ageist about keeping that fact in mind when deciding to act like a civil human being.

I just think people are taking this far too seriously. ...and we don't know how old the lady was, now do we? If you're 20, someone 40 is an old lady. <g>

I agree, in reality, though I HATE people who block isles but in reality, I would never ram an old lady. I would glare at her.

31. That's why you're a better person than Paris Hilton
You have that inner part of you that knows what is decent and what isn't. She's apparently lacking that.

People are not taking it too seriously. It's not good to ram anyone, but most people eventually reach an age where they're obviously at the end of their lifespan and are frailer because of it. It's a fact of life. I think it takes a special kind of asshole to ram them with a cart, because the consequences can be deadly in the way they aren't with someone who's middle aged. And we do know how old she is. The article says she's a senior citizen. She's not young. She may have once been the kind of person who was considerate and didn't block the isle, but she got old. The synopses aren't firing like they used to, and she may not have been self aware enough to realize what she was doing. It's a good bet to assume that and not ram a cart into her, and Paris failed a test and exhibited her own self centered assholishness by failing to recognize that.

I'll admit, it was disquieting to see people cheering her on for that behavior. But, I think that people who think they don't have the guts to do what she did are really just people who are too decent and on some level are aware it isn't the right thing to do. That's a good thing.

39. BUT!
People are holding her to a different standard than they would a regular person. Maybe she was just being a jerky 20 something and it had nothing to do with a sense of Paris Entitlement. What if it had been Mary Jo Cupcake from Cupcake, Idaho? We might say she did wrong but we would not be so incensed.

because they wouldn't get out of the way has major problems. The fact that she's Paris Hilton got it into the news, for sure. But most people who are appalled at that would probably be shocked and angered if they witnessed a nobody doing the same thing. That's assuming it even happened. I'm one of those who thinks Paris Hilton shopping at a grocery store is just about as shocking as the incident. Unless she was slumming it, amusing herself by doing what the little people do.

30. Nobody said old ladies can do what they want. Some advocated good manners.
Giving consideration for the possibilities of age related infirmities and checking NICELY to see if the woman heard you is not giving a pass. Crashing into her cart could also mean a fall, if she was using it to steady herself.

Having once heard the gut wrenching sound of a human hip shattering when an elderly person fell, I can assure you, it is a horrible thing. We are not guilty of anything buy empathy and human kindness to offer a bit of patient communication before acting out with aggression.

'You go Paris' indeed. Paris needs to go for some SERIOUS therapy.

32. The point is she touched her
And if she "rammed" her with the cart there was some force behind the touch. Old people are fragile. Their bones break easily.
And no, I *don't* know the lady in question, but I have elderly relatives, and my Mom died at 70. If this bitch, or anybody, rammed her with their cart in the grocery store you bet I'd be going after their ass right now.
Aren't you the one who's all in up in arms about gay bashing in GD? But you advocate ramming little old ladies with carts? Isn't that somewhat hypocritical?

25. If I see a senior blocking the aisle I want to go down
I go down the next aisle and come in from the other side. I feel like I am the younger person and should give them the space they need. It doesn't cost me anything except maybe a few calories burned by walking the extra aisle, and that can't be a bad thing.

I will, however, say something to someone if they are on a cell phone or arguing with their children over sugary cereals or juice boxes and blocking the aisle.

26. Individual shoppers blocking aisles aren't a problem for me -
my REAL pet peeve is when two of them, each with their own cart, decide to have a little reunion in the aisle, completely blocking the way, and become so engrossed in their conversation that they're totally oblivious to the rest of the customers in the store just trying to finish their lists! :grr:  I have to do the multiple throat-clears and "Excuse me!" to finally get their attention!
