Gen-X'ers or anyone else bored and curious, the topic is "GAME SHOWS":
They disappeared int he early-1980s.

What did you feel at the time?

I recall tuning into 'Blockbusters' one day and it was a soap instead.

Determined it would come back, the next few weeks I'd tune in almost religiously to the same channel and time. As usual, it was the continuing story of Sleazy Susan and Randy Ronald, being bothered by Bothersome Bob...

And today if feels the same way. Spend $70/mo for digital cable so I can watch The Game Show Network (GSN)... tune into when they're re-airing 25 year old "Blockbusters", they have something new and really nonsensical and convoluted in place as if the goal is to lose money because GSN really has none to give away... Feeling just like the new game show contestant, I lost the money and left. Though in this case I dropped the cable... Losing in Las Vegas would be cheaper, and broaden my travel horizons too.

On the plus side, I heard they still have the show featuring questions like "The baseball team manager told the reporter 'We're holding our own.' And the reporter went into the locker room... and saw that all the players were holding their own (((BLANKS)))".

(or, to make a long story short, GSN still airs "Match Game PM" and that was an actual quote; amazing what could be said in 1975... )

What sayeth you?

1. Game shows are still all the rage here
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
The Weakest Link
Deal Or No Deal

I'm sure you have your own versions of at least the first two. In fact I know for sure you have The Weakest Link.

2. Anne Robinson rocks!
She's evil and callous, but who doesn't love her?

She also guested in an episode of "Doctor Who" which, oddly, is one of my favorites... technically I should dislike it but I love it for some reason... maybe because it parodies reality tv... :D

4. Game Show Network isn't Game Show Network anymore.
It's GSN, The Network For Games.

They have that stupid damned Playmania on half the time at night, and overnight is paid programming. The older shows are getting fewer and farther between.

I miss Sunday Night In Black And White the most, any many of the other older games are being phased out too ($100,000 Pyramid mornings was replaced by The Weakest Link; Match Game in the evenings is being replaced by the Richard Karn version of Family Feud.)

It's been a long time since they've shown the 60s Password, any version of What's My Line or To Tell The Truth, Tic Tac Dough, The Joker's Wild, Win Lose or Draw, or Body Language. GSN lost the contract to air The Price Is Right a long time ago, which was a real shame.
