13. Story about the first time I backed a trailer
I'd gotten a new horse and my husband had borrowed a trailer to bring him home. Took longer than expected and he had to go to work so he asked me if I could return it. Figuring that I could afford to make mistakes (being there was no horse inside now), I bravely said yes.

However, I hadn't realized he'd parked in a place where I had to back out, making a tight 45 degree angle turn. I knew the mechanics of backing a trailer but had never done it, made one try and botched it and sat there shaking for a few minutes. Then I mentally kicked myself, pulled forward again, took a deep breath and backed out perfectly.

I was SO proud of myself. And I've never had a problem since. It's amazing what determination will do.

As does a horse trailer, utility trailer, U-Haul trailer, snowmobile trailer - anything that's attached to the rear of another vehicle.

23. Funny thing over here
if you take your driving test in an automatic (and pass) your licence only gives you permission to drive automatics. If you pass your test in a manual car you can drive both.

I know a lot of people who can't drive a manual. When my kids were learning, I taught them to drive mine. Even if they never own one, you never know - you might have to jump into one in an emergency.

1. Can you drive a manual transmission? Yes.

2. Which do you prefer, automatic or manual? If there's not much traffic, manual. When I have to commute in heavy traffic, I like an automatic. I have an automatic now, but I got this car on the cheap from my parents so I wouldn't have a car payment.

3. Can you parallel park as taught in driver's ed (pull ahead of the space and back in) in one try? Sometimes - sometimes, I need a couple of tries to straighten out fully.

4. Have you ever had an accident? Sure, none my fault.

5. Can you back a trailer? Hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. To move the trailer right, move your hand right, and vice versa.

6. What's the first car you ever drove? 1980 Datsun 210

26. 6 questions about driving
1. Can you drive a manual transmission?

Yes.

2. Which do you prefer, automatic or manual?

For long drives, automatic and cruise control. For shorter drives, manual just makes me feel more engaged. No pun intended.

3. Can you parallel park as taught in driver's ed (pull ahead of the space and back in) in one try?

How I wish you could make a living parallel parking. It's all geometry, knowing all the angles, when to make that first turn and then when to swing it back in, that's the key. There's nothing I can even impart to you, that's the sad thing. It's so inborn, I can't pass it on.

4. Have you ever had an accident?

I've been hit twice (not my fault). I left a 4x4 upside down and totaled in the Salmon River but that's another story.

5. Can you back a trailer?

Yep. Grew up on a farm. I could even back a double trailer once. But I can still back a boat provided I can see it.

6. What's the first car you ever drove?

1965 Dodge Dart. I was 12.

62. no, automatic, yes, yes, never tried, Escort? I can't remember.
I drove my dad's car once when he wasn't home (it was a company car and we weren't allowed to drive it). I think it was a Ford Escort (I know, generous company he worked for, right?).

As far as parking is concerned, I live in Chicago so parallel parking is a necessary skill.

65. Answers
1. Can you drive a manual transmission?
Yes, I learned to drive on one.

2. Which do you prefer, automatic or manual?
Manual.

3. Can you parallel park as taught in driver's ed (pull ahead of the space and back in) in one try?
Most of the time.

4. Have you ever had an accident?
Yes,the worst was coming off a highway ramp,in the rain.As I downshifted the back end slid out and I started hydroplaning - I froze, slammed my foot on the gas.I ended up hitting the median, turned sideways in the air,hit a tree and landed on the other side of the highway!
Luckily nobody was hurt but I was in shock, tried to start the car, I couldn't speak to the people running up to car to see if I was alright.
The cars(a little red MR2/my boyfriends)tires were all blown, all the windows shattered and the door was smashed in from hitting the tree...I was just 19 at the time, not experienced enough to be driving a car like that, especially in the rain :( Ever since then I've had a fear of driving in the rain(or rather hitting the brakes when it's raining).

5. Can you back a trailer?
Not sure what that means but I've never driven a trailer so probably not.

6. What's the first car you ever drove?
Toyota,I don't remember the model.
