1. I'm helping underwrite a

restaurant that a niece is opening. And I've put a great deal of thought into the possibility that I will not get a penny back, and since it will not bankrupt me and will not alter my retirement plans, I'm willing to do it. I do think she will be successful and I'll get my money back and then some, but I wouldn't do it if I couldn't afford to lose the money.

2. I have, albeit unwillingly

I was paid by check for my work as the banquet manager at the restaurant I worked at for six years (I recently quit this job). Anytime they were having financial difficulties, all of the sudden my checks wouldn't get signed, sometimes for weeks. This usually coincided with the company opening up a new restaurant and needing all of their available liquid assets to pay off the contracters and suppliers, forcing them to not pay their employees and use their interest-free loaned salaries to pay their debts. Gee, I wonder why I don't work for them anymore. :shrug:
