It's March -- Temps are -2 degrees here
Edited on Tue Mar-06-07 08:41 AM by GenDem
The weather here has been incredibly brutal the last two days. Yesterday the snow came down with 40 mile an hour winds creating white outs that resulted in countless accidents and a few fatalities. Roads and entire counties eventually closed. One elderly woman was killed when a tractor trailer jack knifed as she stood outside her car after losing control of her own vehicle. There were pile ups on many of the major routes.

Today we are in the deep freeze. It has garnered me another snow day, but now I'm just plain sick of it.

I'm ready for spring.

1. I hope spring comes soon.
I can remember winters in NY and northern PA. :scared:

I'm glad you can stay home today. Be safe!

2. I'm trying to decide......
Should I stay home and putter, or should I get in the car and drive 8 miles to a community center where I have been painting a mural? I need to get the mural done so I can pay my taxes, and today would be a nice quiet, productive day. I guess I should check and see if the community center is even open.

Hi AirmensMom!!!!! I hope you have a nice day today.

:pals:

3. I would stay put.
If it's that bad outside, you sure don't want to risk it.

Thanks. I'm doing OK today. Just taking it easy ... might go over and see the dogs.

4. My county was under a driving advisory
I'll have to look and see if it still is. I live a 1/4 mile from the border of another county and they have a no unnecessary travel ban.

Maybe I should just stay home with my doggies and my kitty. They don't like the cold either. My dogs go out for about a minute and come back in holding their little paws up from the extreme cold.

My paints are in the trunk of my van -- if I even contemplate going, I will have to bring my paints in and thaw them for a couple hours.

Are the spring flowers up where you are?

5. Nothing would get me to go out.
But I'm a wimp.

Your doggies and kitty will be glad to have you home to play with! :bounce:

Yes, we have spring flowers. I've seen daffodils, crocuses, and forsythia so far. And the grass is starting to green up. :D

7. I lived in NC for four years....
.....when MrGen was in the Marine Corp.

I loved that when February came it meant spring.

Around here we wait until the end of April before we are truly out of the woods. And I have seen a couple of early May wet snow storms in my lifetime.

9. It was a bizarre winter here
We were in the 40's and 50's until the third week in January when winter decided to come a calling.

It has been pretty extreme for the past six or seven weeks in the other direction. Lots of snow and very cold temps. Our economy depends on a little winter so at least the snow plowers, ski resorts, snow mobilers, and ice fishing people have gotten their fill.

8. Yup
Yesterday I had to drive past Eastview Mall to get to a doctor's appt. Couldn't see the car in front of me at 1pm in the afternoon! It was freaky scary, just pure white in front of me. Didn't even see the stop light until I was nearly under it. Only slid once, good thing I was going slow enough not to hit the car in front of me.

Snow day for the kids here too. Brrrrrrrr.

Where is Spring???

10. It was terrible, wasn't it?
I think the worse day of the winter.

At 9 am we got hit with a white out just after my first period class arrived. I work in an annex building so the kids have to go outside to come to my classroom. I actually thought that I would have to keep the 6th graders with me, as it was too dangerous to send them out to go back to the main building. It finally let up by the end of the period. It was a weird day. One minute a peek of sunshine, the next a complete white out.

My husband works in East Rochester, and he called me at 2 and said that he needed to meet with someone in Batavia. I told him that 490 had closed from Rochester to LeRoy so he had decided to take the secondary roads instead of the thruway. By 3 the thruway had closed, too. His trip to Batavia took over two hours and he said it was frightening beyond words. He said that all he saw was white at times -- no road, no trees, nothing but white. He was scared to death that he was going to drive head on into a snow plow.

Glad you got home OK, BNL!

18. No snow
It's too cold for the flakes to start condensing or whatever it is that makes it snow.

16. 56!!! I would be happy breaking 20, today.
And it's not going to happen. They are calling for a high between 7 and 10

The silver lining is the sunshine. I always feel better when the sun is shining -- and it's pouring in my windows right now.
