So, say you're just sort of seeing this guy
Or girl maybe. And, over a casual post-work drink, he (or she) presents you with two giant glittery things for your hands. Not like, diamonds or anything. Say like, onyx and amber. And they say they got it just cause the rings made them think of you. And they are great. Say you like, I don't know, square cut stones, they're square, and say you like silver, they're silver.
They might just look like this (hypothetically)

What the FUCK do you do? Like, you aren't in a serious buy each other jewelery relationship, you're perfectly content seeing this guy or girl, they're awesome, but this is out of the blue.
What.
Do.
You.
Do.

1. As long as you've been clear;
you should not stress about it too much.
Beautiful rings.
But do make sure everything is clear--as nicely as possible.

11. Please don't dear.
But if you feel it is not right to accept them; that's fine--but you cannot take responsibility for someone else's assumptions.
I know that's hard.....but I can see you are kind and it will be ok. Don't stress; really; it just adds to it.

Hope I don't sound too preachy-sorry.

3. Evidently post on DU! Either that or deer in headlights face.
That's what I would do. Deer in headlights. Face.

Seriously though, if it's not a super expensive ring, then great. He/She gave you a gift of appreciation. So feel appreciated. Maybe glow a little bit.

4. I don't know
They are very pretty. I think as long as you feel the person is clear on the exact circumstances of your relationship it should be okay to take them. When I am with someone I buy them stupid crap all the time. I never ask for any of it back. I'm a goofball like that when I'm crushing on someone. It's just if they expect more than you are willing to give is when it gets weird.

33. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you
weren't polite. I just meant, "just say thanks and enjoy the gift." Unless you really get a vibe like the gift was offered as some kind of "Let's Up The Ante" offering that you're not into, then I say don't worry about it and simply accept it for what it is: A gift you like from someone who knew you'd like it.

If you do get that vibe and you're not ready for it, then I don't know what to tell you. That's always a difficult situation.

well, I say thank you. I do not sweat it. I buy people gifts all the time because I see something and I think "Hey, I want to get that for (X)." Sometimes I know that it may be strange, but...I'm a random gifter. Perhaps it means he thinks your awesome too. I'd consider it a sign of your awesomeness.

30. Oh, come on? What's so tough about that?
In all seriousness...
I'd be totally knocked speechless.
I'd very nicely thank the person, but ask them if this means that they want to make the relationship more seriously (like, what their intention is)...and if I'm not comfortable with that, let them know...kindly, of course.
That's probably not helpful at all, but I think that's what I'd do if it were me.

42. hm, well i do like amber there's little doubt about that...
but not necessarily in that cut, or style of setting but if this would be, hypothetically, a mui sincere initiation or application for 'advanced', long term friendship ;) one could accept, have a few more drinks, say a few more words of hopeful even wistful consolidation, let some time string out front and then float past some jewelry designer shop windows and drop a few hints as to any possible design revisions

That he was there when my amber ring (procured from longterm boyfriend two men back) broke and I was sad, though not heartbroken.

I enjoy a strong square hunk of junk with a solid silver plaino setting. Totally me :D Yeah I just felt weird but I'm getting over it.

Honestly, that soon in a relationship if a girl did that, I might be looking for a way out.

Unless she was really, super hott, then I might keep her around for a while.
