1. "Dawn" remake
OK, once I found out it was being redone by the idiot who made "Scooby Doo", I started having doubts. In my view, "DotD" has already been remade in the form of "28 Days Later", albeit in an English idiom. The current "Dawn" seems more reminiscent of the latter film than its namesake. The 1979 "Dawn" works on many levels. It's a great social satire of a consumer society in that even faced with a fate worse than death, people clamor for shiny things. Further, it can even be seen as a metaphor for wealth and the fear of the haves being engulfed by the envious have nots. I know that the effects are dated, but I've enjoyed the 1979 version more than any similar movie in the zombie genre. I'm afraid this movie will adopt the patter of having one dimensional characters spouting one liners and the peripheral cast having "victim" in day glow letters across the forehead.

3. And it will be completely devoid of social commentary
or anything else that made the original so wonderfully compelling and cool. And the special effects will surely be totally whiz-bang high-falutin' wonderful, thus killing the fun.

5. George Romero
He's essentially been the Orson Welles of horror movies. His ideas are copied, plagiarized, and co-opted but he can't get anything funded. Romero was initially scheduled to make the adaptation of "Resident Evil". He was instrumental in developing the game for Capcom and his script was much better than the poor schlock that was produced. Romero was dropped because Sony wanted it to be an action movies with less emphasis on horror. Right now, Romero has a fourth official "Dead" movie scripted and conceived called "Dead Reckoning". In this story, the dead are everywhere and the living are in fortified compounds. The title is from a super tank that is used to defend the cities of the living against the walking dead. At this point, Romero has no backing for the film, even though some no talent shit is butchering HIS masterpiece.

6. Have you heard about Romero's new Zombie muscial?
(I'm serious here)

Diamond Dead. One of the song writers of Rocky Horror is involved.

http://www.diamonddead.com/

STORY:

Aria De Winter has been enlisted by Death himself to kill 365 people in one year. Hard task? Well, it helps when Aria is planning an historic concert for the Diamond Dead, the world’s most famous underground rock band. It also helps that she’s the ex-girlfriend of the lead singer of the band. It helps even more that the band members have been dead for over a year.

2. They're remaking it?
My God, movies are only 100 years old, and yet apparently those assholes in hollywood can't come up with new ideas, and are already recycling.

How many movies do we have to suffer being "remade"? Especially the classics! Like this one. And how could anyone have the audacity, the hubris, to think they could remake Psycho?

Argh. :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh:

4. I like the poster (hadn't previously seen it)...
But I'll hold out judgement on the movie. I liked the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake much more than I thought I would (although still nowhere near the original) so one never knows.

7. It's a damn shame
...that some Hollywood hacks are spending megabucks to disgrace one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) horror movies ever made, while George Romero himself can't get funding to make the fourth and final movie in the series.

8. Might be good...might really suck (SPOILER ALERT)
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 10:22 PM by absyntheNsugar
The original was such a classic - I can't imagine them topping it.

However, from what I've heard this one is going to be a much more introspective version, playing on the anguish of what's it's like to be an 'endangered spieces'.

I've also heard its more of a re-envisioning than a remake.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

And there is supposedly a woman who gives birth to a zombie baby that, rather than going for scares goes for sorrow - basically saying that the humans who walk the earth then will be the last.

9. 2004 Dawn
I just watched the extended trailer on Yahoo Movies. It reminds me of "28 Days Later" in that these zombies seem unencumbered by rigor mortis. I'll reserve my judgement for the movie, but with Hollywood's record, I have low expectations.
