It's a demythologizing of the mythologized: a way of using the press about Favre and the Pack as a "team of destiny" and "watched over by an angel" to show how putrid and sick those mythologies, as such, are.

I agree that some demythologizing of sports figures is always in order. However, the fart bit doesn't make up for the much of the rest of the piece, which lists some rather serious parts of the man's (and his family's) life. Sorry, but there is too much here that is far too serious to say that it wasn't written to bite much harder than necessary.

I love that the Packers have a valid chance to win it all once more in his lifetime. I love discussing each little minute detail of a play. I love getting little Brett Favre jersey shaped beer bottle holders in my stocking at Christmas. I love it. I don't have a lot in my life...Football is a way for me to get together with family. It was something in my house on that Sunday when Mr. Poole caught that ball that catapulted my beloved team into the playoffs.

this is why I love football. It's also why I don't knock other people's interests.
