Anyone see"Gray's Anatomy" tonight ? (spoiler) Question. How can
Merideth be clinically dead for so long, wake up, and have no loss of brain function? She's perfectly normal!

1. the hypothermia
Clinical death occurs at Stage 3. "Because of decreased cellular activity in stage 3 hypothermia, the body will actually take longer to undergo brain death."

7. yes, it was a quick recovery
this is what a woman who was clinically dead and in deep hypothermia for over 2 hours had to deal with upon recovery "She subsequently spent 35 days receiving ventilator treatment and a total of 60 days intensive care before rehabilitation."

Meredith was a TV miracle, but seeing Denny again was worth it for me. I just love Denny.

8. The scene w/Denny and Izzie at the end...oh man!
I thought I was going to cry. I could feel the tears welling up...

I love that show. I know it's not always going to make sense, but I have no life, so I live vicariously through books, music, tv, and DU! :D

2.  Because television characters don't have any
brain function to lose. They aren't really alive, so they don't really die. So when they're dying it only looks like they're dying. Its all pretend. And if you know so much about real medicine, you shouldn't be thinking about it while you're watching Grey's Anatomy or ER. You're just waiting for Meredith and Derek to smooch again.

5. Well, in my medical opinion...
... it's a TV show that's named after her character. They weren't going to impair her.

9. Good question and you got

some good answers.

I loved seeing Denny again, too.
Maybe there is someway the writers can
work his spirit into the script now and then
so we can see him.

I had a strong feeling Meredith's mom was going
to die.

I"m not Gray's Anatomy fan, but Mrs av8rdave & my daughter are watching it on Tivo now. It's killing them that I know what happens with whatsherface.

17. My mom was clinically dead for at least 13 minutes
The time between the 911 call and when the paramedics responded was 13 minutes. They don't know how long she had been down before she was found. She didn't have a pulse. She was in a coma for 3 days, able to work again after five weeks. That was four years ago and the only residual is some slight short-term memory loss. It's really rare but it does happen.
