I won it a couple of years ago, and I decided then to retire undefeated. I went with Lord of the Rings across the board, and made a few lucky guesses. Got a nice long-sleeve tee out of the deal.

37. An old TV show

Many stations had local versions, and different formats were used. Here, they had two wheels they spun, and a cut-up phone book. One wheel just said "Up" and "Down" and the other had numbers on it. So the guy would spin the wheels then grab a slip from the bin. I was home for lunch, watching some cartoon, when it came on (it was a daily thing, running in a commercial break). He spun the wheels, pulled the slip, then said "Last four digits are 9-6-2-4." Same as ours. I nearly peed my pants when the phone rang, so I answered and said "Up seven eighty dollars!!" You had to say that to win, and if there was nobody home etc. the jackpot went up. Anyway, I was a real celebrity at school that afternoon. Then my dad made me split the money four ways with the rest of the family, grrr. . . That was a lot of dough back in 1971.
